Heavy Feet

Seems, to me, as if the song is about finding someone and then the process of them leaving and how everything they said comes to linger(in the speakers head), even though they are not physically there anymore.

First verse is about coming to know them, love them and ultimately why it will be so difficult to let them go(they're great).

"Fire works at the water" "You were holy" "Styrofoam cup held between your teeth "Telling me how you are going to outlive your body."

Second verse is things getting even more intense and heavy. His intensity is causing him to grip too tight, and it's only pushing her away.The speaker who is "falling", is reading to much into everything and insecurity and doubt is talking him out of living normally.His confidence is ruined and he is struggling to do anything at all.

The final verse is him recollecting on her now being gone and how he blames her, but knows neither party is really guilty of anything. He fell too hard and should have known better to, not only fall, but to think gripping was the answer to falling and losing love. Now all he is left with is the memories of all their conversation and all the mistakes he perceives he had made. Which is unfortunate because she may have loved him, but just couldn't stay for some reason which has nothing to do with him personally. He is saying he should have known better than to take it personally.

I can't really piece together one coherent meaning from the verses...but little bits stand out to me, and reflect what I have felt at times. Talking, drinking, writing meaningless words down...I like this song, a lot. :-)

To me, there seems to be two different ways to interpret the song. The first being that the singer is writing about a close friend/relative who is going to die soon (which makes sense with the context of the rest of the album, esp. "Three Months"). They're saying that their body is going to die before their spirit, which indicates some sort of a disease. So the singer writes down all the things this person says so that they don't forget, but the words can't be spoken or else they lose all their meaning. Or, as is indicated by the last line, the singer will attach more meaning to the words than was intended. An alternative would be that their close friend/relative is simply leaving or breaking up with them. Doesn't seem to fit as well with everything else, but it's always an angle.

My interpretation is that the song is about an alcoholic friend, lover or loved one, who is near death or just passed. Reminiscing about drinking in their youth this person remembers them talking like their invincible living forever.

They turn into an alcoholic and this person is writing down everything were saying to them when they were drunk good or bad cause they can’t remember. But I lean more towards bad because of the lines

And at this point the person is drunk and verbally seriously hurting them
