Richard Manuel Lyrics
Where is my belt
I swear I'm gonna get
myself together.
Where is the band
I'm gonna set this
hotel on fire.
The band is swinging
swinging, swinging, swinging
just like me. (2x)
Where is my wife
I swear
I still smell her
in the shower.
Where is my band
I'm gonna set this
hotel on fire
Manuel, play the keys (3x)
Manuel, please
Swing it just like me
My neck is soft
My neck is taut
Against the leather
My body falls
My fingers drop down
Together
Manuel, play the keys (7x)
Manuel, please
Swing it just like me.
I swear I'm gonna get
myself together.
Where is the band
I'm gonna set this
hotel on fire.
swinging, swinging, swinging
just like me. (2x)
I swear
I still smell her
in the shower.
I'm gonna set this
hotel on fire
Manuel, please
Swing it just like me
My neck is taut
Against the leather
My body falls
My fingers drop down
Together
Manuel, please
Swing it just like me.

There were no lyrics for this song and, with the 28th anniversary of Richard Manuel's suicide just passed, I felt it was worth writing them down as a personal homage to him. This song is sweet and morbid in that it includes details of his last night in that hotel after The Band had performed a show on 3/4/86 - "where is my belt" because he hung himself with his belt in the shower, "the band is swinging just like me" obviously a reference to his hanging body and the bridge talks about the moment he hung himself... "my body falls, my fingers drop, etc."
