I think she just means she is a lost soul and her life is shit. She is doing all these bad things (drugs, sex, etc.) and I think she's saying shes just lost in this world so she results in doing all that stuff. She says she tries to remember what the good book (the Bible), her teacher, and her mother told her but at the end of the day, their advice does not matter. At least now it doesn't cause she is too far gone. I kind of get this feeling when I listen to any one of Taylor's songs. Shes just lost. But she's amazing and her music is the best so I don't care. :)

I think its either about prostitution or taylor being out of control as a teenager! Whether or not thats actually happened I don't know! Though taylor HAS hinted at having bad experiences as a teenager so maybe this song is about that! Anyway love taylor momsen and love the pretty reckless and like this song! (Although not one of my favourites)!

It sounds to me like she's hiding from the realities in her life. She keeps her body dirty but her eyes clean because she won't look at the truth. She's going back under by pulling the wool back over her eyes. She's needs quiet to think so she can keep her story straight because it's not the whole truth.

I'm not sure if this is what Taylor was thinking when she wrote this, but I interpret it being about prostitution. "Every day I wake up alone" -She does her "job" at night, and wakes up alone without anyone the next morning. "See I didn't cry when he came inside" -She doesn't enjoy her job and is just doing it for the money...she's not into it "Drugs, bars, back seats of cars" -Self-explanatory... "So with a wink and smile and a vile of meth, I took his hand and we walked through the shadow of dead" -She's on duty.. With the advice lyrics, she's remembering what her mother, teacher, etc. told her which could be like to get a real job, become successful..stuff along those lines.
