Boxing Day Lyrics

Let's get started, the faint and brokenhearted
hold it up! I've got something I cannot hide.
The worst painkiller, the all in filler,
apart and departed, look in my eye.

Sad, how far you ran, I'll search this land,
up through the clouds then back here.
We could reignite like fireflies, like an atom bomb,
at all hours...

I'm empty like the day after Christmas,
swept beneath the wave of your goodbye.
You left me on the day after Christmas,
there's nothing left to say, and so goodnight.

I will follow the trail to tomorrow,
with my loneliness with sorrow all through the night.
Sons and daughters, mothers and their fathers.
Just the bridges and the waters their clues left behind.

I'm empty like the day after Christmas,
swept beneath the wave of your goodbye.
You left me on the day after Christmas,
there's nothing left to say, and so goodnight.
There's nothing left to say, and so goodnight.
Goodnight!

The whole song is basically about the blink break up. They were supposed to do a show for a relief concert after the Boxing Day Tsunami in '04 but had problems and didn't do it. Hence the title and ("swept beneith the wave of your goodbye" lyrics) "The worst pain killer.." Maybe reference to Tom's addiction to pain killers, stating that leaving blink was a worse pain than the problems the addiction caused?

"Sad how far you ran... I'll search this land, up through the clouds.. How Tom left for Angels and AIRwaves (air..clouds... get it?)

And the the chrous is pretty much just Mark's pain of Tom leaving. :( That's my interpretation but ya.

My Interpretation

December 26th has got to be the worst day to have a breakup. I've read the comments above and while I do believe this correlates with the 04' Tsunami and 05' hiatus, this song clearly paints a picture about a couples' split on the day after Christmas.

Tom's voice shows regret and sorrow, something he felt during blink's departure. Mark's lyrics shadow resentment, which he's had for Tom many points in life.

Even tho this song seems to be chronicling blink from their time off til 2008, the themes and lyrics can fit easily to a conflicting relationship of two people. Which is why I like to believe the song was called Boxing Day.

Simply cuz it's unexpected.

Here are the lyrics, glad to help fill in some of the parts you couldn't hear!

I’m empty like the day after Christmas Sweep beneath the wave of your goodbye You left me on the day after Christmas There’s nothing left to say and so goodnight

I will follow the trail to tomorrow With my loneliness, with sorrow All through the night Sons and daughters With mothers and their fathers Cross the bridges and the waters The roofs left behind

I’ts sad How far you’re in I’ll search this land Up through the clouds and back here We could reignite Like fireflies Like an atom bomb In all hours

There are some lyrics I don't quite understand, but the general idea is that a girl left this guy(the writer) on Boxing Day, the day after Christmas. She may had left him for a stupid reason which is why the writer says "it's sad how far you ran". He also shows that he wants to try and works things out, and make things better, and how their relationship could "reignite like fireflies".

My Opinion

This song is about the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. It is referencing how families were torn apart and some never put back together.

After reading the lyrics I totally think it could be about a relationship ending, or about the Tsunami, but I really like to think there is some correlation between the band breaking up and now being back together.

And obviously how boxing day feels flat and hollow after the buid up and hype of Christmas.\n\nThe presents are open, the Quality Street demolished, that (insert present you wanted here) Scalextrix isn\'t as good as you anticipated, nothing on the TV other than Jason & The Argonauts and Worlds Strongest Man and maybe some skiing.\n\n That\'s assuming you like Christmas. I dislike it and therefore see Boxing Day as an opportunity to flee to the pub.\n\nHowever, my feelings aside, this is a very well written song.
