Drunk and with Dreams Lyrics

Someone has got to go on believing
Someone has got to speak of a feeling
Someone has got to Let down their guard
for someone
And I'll be the one, be the one
I do not mind
and if you should touch me know that I'm made
that I'm made of fire

Drunk and with dreams I'm lost out at sea with
My only map I have memories
How else do you suggest I get back to that place
with only one memory I'll never see
its face

Though I keep it alive
it fell underwater
Rings in my head and as long as it's ringing
It was once said, It was once said

I'll be the one be the one I do not mind
And if you should touch me know that I'm made
that I'm made of fire
oh lift me up oh lift me up love lift me up just to bury me under
lift me up oh lift me up love lift me up just to bury me under

Cover art for Drunk and with Dreams lyrics by Angel Olsen

it's impossible to separate the lyrics of this song from the unadulterated quality of her voice, sometimes afloat and other times undulating under the sea. The guitar riff sounds very familiar, very old country, I think of pirates gathered round the fire, she really takes you to another time. I think I fell in love with her yodelling at 'I'll be the one" it doesn't sound kitsch, it's sincere and haunting.

It's such a visual, floating song, it pulls you under it's tide like the sea. But I think it's about destroying yourself with nostalgia, a dangerous state where your thoughts can seem lucid and accurate but you're dislocated from reality. Some things only make sense when your blind drunk but then you have to ask yourself is it really worth it? That's why I think there's an element of self-mockery throughout, laughing at your drunk self. I interpret the image of fire and water as the conflict of desire and memories
