Society Song Lyrics
Please don't waste your pity votes on me
I have riches you could never see
So fix your sad eye on someone worthier
I've got something better up my sleeve
Tuesday night down at the Monster's Ball
I've got dirty laundry on them all
And I'd crack the whip and burn down this house of cards
But my inner Cinderella calls
Sing your society song
It never changes
I will not sing along
How did you get it so wrong
In a room of strangers
Oh well, I'm glad I don't belong
I'm not one to rage against the scene
A nicer girl there's surely never been
But you take the grand prize
An egotistical acrobatic master of conceit
Too much for me!
Oh, sing your society song
It never changes
I will not sing along
How did you get it so wrong
In a room of strangers
Oh well, I'm glad I don't belong
I take it as it comes
No shaking in my shoes
That's for you and the truth of
Just who you have become
The company you keep
Bittersweet on the tongue
Sing your society song
It never changes
I will not sing along
How did you get it so wrong
In a room of strangers
Oh well, I'm glad I don't
Sing your society song
It never changes
I will not sing along
How did you get it so wrong
In a room of strangers
Oh yes, I'm glad I don't belong
I have riches you could never see
So fix your sad eye on someone worthier
I've got something better up my sleeve
I've got dirty laundry on them all
And I'd crack the whip and burn down this house of cards
But my inner Cinderella calls

I will not sing along
How did you get it so wrong

Oh well, I'm glad I don't belong

i think this song is about how some singers/artists change to fit the way society wants them to be.they sell themselves short, sell themselves out.sarah is saying that even though this may get them the grand prize, she is fine with that because she has something bigger up her sleeve.part of her would like to tell the world who they really are, share their 'dirty laundry' but she is above that, she is a nice girl and has an 'inner cinderella' herself. when she says inner cinderella she means that she wasn't born in the spotlight of fortune and fame either, she started from rags to riches too. perhaps she doesnt want her own story in the media/analyzed so she keeps quiet.
