This Ladder Is Ours Lyrics
Let's take this walk, it's long overdue
And let this load roll over you finally
Let's take this walk, it's overdue
Let's sit and talk and slow things down
Just be our old selves again finally
Let's take this walk
Let's take a walk to somewhere clear
This ladder is ours
This ladder is ours
We can be anybody else
Hold on to the frame
Jump through from the past
This ladder is ours
This ladder is ours
This is where everybody turns out right in the end
Can you play that part?
See us walking through the sunshine
Ask me where I've been
Back to ire
Back to desire
This is where it all begins
This ladder is ours
This ladder is ours
We can be anybody else
Hold on to the frame
Jump through from the past
This ladder is ours
This ladder is ours
This is where everybody turns out right in the end
Can you play that part?
This ladder is ours
And let this load roll over you finally
Let's take this walk, it's overdue
Just be our old selves again finally
Let's take this walk
Let's take a walk to somewhere clear
This ladder is ours
We can be anybody else
Hold on to the frame
Jump through from the past
This ladder is ours
This is where everybody turns out right in the end
Can you play that part?
Ask me where I've been
Back to ire
Back to desire
This is where it all begins
This ladder is ours
We can be anybody else
Hold on to the frame
Jump through from the past
This ladder is ours
This is where everybody turns out right in the end
Can you play that part?

It's about healing a relationship that's broken or grown stale. It's really touching.
That said, I wonder why everybody except Scottomir is guessing about the lyrics when they're printed in the CD booklet. Oh yeah, the printed word is ancient technology. Anyway, our ears sometimes hear the opposite of what's there. "We CAN'T be anybody else", "load" and "wire" (not "loathe" and "ire" - anger issues anybody?).
This song they sing is a play for my heart Nocturnal energy that provides me camaraderie, Fearless intensity, scripts out our reality I need not talk ... they drum out my part.
An apparently famous quote goes
“We, verily, have made music as a ladder for your souls…” —Abdu’l-Baha
Given that, it seems this song is about the band making music. Which makes the line "Can you play that part" especially noteworthy.
The official lyrics book has the line "back to wire" (instead of ire as listed), probably meaning something about the recording process.
What a fantastic song. I'm pretty sure some of this initially offered lyrics are not correct, though. Here are corrections that I think can be heard fairly clearly upon closer listening:
"Let this load roll over you finally" "Hold on to the frame" "Let's take a walk to somewhere clear"
