Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho Lyrics

Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, Jericho,
Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, and the walls came tumblin' down.

Now listen here, you sinners! I'm gonna tell you thereover king Saul
He'd ruled out the people of Bethlehem, he said I'm gonna kill you all
Well, Joshua came and fought him, he broke down his foes
King's servants locking out of Joshua harbored on at Jericho

Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, Jericho,
Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, and the walls came tumblin' down.

Now here's the way the story goes, Joshua said to king Saul:
If you don't let my people go I'm gonna bring down your walls
Lord Saul he said to Joshua, Go ahead, for I don't care
The only thing I've got to say don't drip before it is there

Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, Jericho,
Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, and the walls came tumblin' down.

Cover art for Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho lyrics by Les Humphries

"people of Bethlehem" seem to refer to King Herod's slaughter of the children

"let my people go" seem to refer to Moses before Pharaoh

No reference to the wall-crushing trumpets, though.

There was another folk song report of a battle from Les Humphries Singers: Mexico. I wonder is it just as accurate :)
