The Moment I Knew Lyrics
You should've been there,
Should've burst through the door,
With that 'baby I'm right here' smile,
And it would've felt like,
A million little shining stars had just aligned,
And I would've been so happy.
Christmas lights glisten,
I've got my eye on the door,
Just waiting for you to walk in,
But the time is ticking,
People ask me how I've been as I comb back through my memory,
How you said you'd be here,
You said you'd be here.
And it was like slow motion,
Standing there in my party dress,
In red lipstick,
With no-one to impress,
And they're all laughing,
As I'm looking around the room,
But there's one thing missing,
And that was the moment I knew.
And the hours pass by,
Now I just wanna be alone,
But your close friends always seem to know when there's something really wrong,
So they follow me down the hall,
And there in the bathroom,
I try not to fall apart,
And the sinking feeling starts,
As I say hopelessly,
"He said he'd be here."
And it was like slow motion,
Standing there in my party dress,
In red lipstick,
With no-one to impress,
And they're all laughing,
And asking me about you,
But there's one thing missing,
And that was the moment I knew.
What do you say when tears are streaming down your face,
In front of everyone you know?
And what do you do when the one who means the most to you,
is the one who didn't show?
You should've been here.
And I would've been so happy.
And it was like slow motion,
Standing there in my party dress,
In red lipstick,
With no-one to impress,
And they're all standing around me singing,
Happy Birthday to you,
But there's one thing missing,
And that was the moment I knew.
Ooh, I knew.
You call me later,
And say I'm sorry I didn't make it.
And I say I'm sorry too,
And that was the moment I knew.
Should've burst through the door,
With that 'baby I'm right here' smile,
And it would've felt like,

This is another great song. If I remember correctly, someone posted that this song is about JG not showing up for her birthday, and that was the "moment she knew" their relationship was over. Sad.

@beaches Yeah This song is about jake gyllenhaal but then again he was a douche for taking advantage of her and stood her up in the end.

I did this to a girl once sort of. This was back before everyone had cell phones. We were dating, we hooked up, and she called and left a message on my answering machine on a Sunday inviting me to her birthday party the next Friday. I missed the message because I had left Sunday morning for a week long out of state business trip. I got back the next Saturday and got the message, and realizing that I missed her birthday, I just felt awful. I never called her back to apologize, I just kind moved on. This song makes me think about her and regret not checking my messages that week.
Very different one the many I think, but when I hear this song I imagine a girl who's wondering where her boy friends is(of course) because it is really unlike him to not show up when he says he will. All her friends and family think she has picked another dud until the phone rings and he was killed trying to stop a mugging. the versus are her at the party and as the chorus goes I see them flip to him fighting. after he stabbed and left to die, he calls her to tell her "I'm sorry I didn't make it" and she knows from his tone then he dies.
Really depressing, I know.
This song is about Jake Gyllenhal. I heard that Taylor lost her virginity to him because she really loved him and was even thinking that she would end up marrying him one day. She had a huge birthday party in Tennessee and Jake was supposed to fly in and celebrate it with her, but he couldn't make it, and Taylor was heartbroken because he was the only person that she really wanted to see there because he was the one who meant the most to her and the fact that he wasn't there really crushed her and she spent a majority of the evening crying in the bathroom.
@GoddessofLove I totally agree with you and I would've been crushed too so I don't blame her for the pain he caused her.

This song is totally about Jake Gyllenhaal and the fact that he called her and admitted he cheated on her was the cruelest way to do to someone.
