Halcyon Lyrics

I know it's not over
Baby I worked this out for sure
It's gonna be colder
Now you force open the door
I know you better
than I ever have before
I know you

I know you're a fighter
But you never fought for me
When I was a shelter
'Cause you're not heading home to me
We could be closer
We could be closer
We could be

When it's just us, you show me what it feels like to be lonely
You show me what it feels like to be lost
I'll take your hand for you to let it go let it go let it go
When it's just us, you show me what it feels like to be lonely
You show me what it feels like to be lost
I'll take your hand for you to let it go let it go let it go let it go
It's gonna be
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
(No, it's not)

We'll take a long walk
Down the alleys of these houses
And we'll talk
See what conversation rouses
When we're alone
When we're alone, it could be home

When it's just us, you show me what it feels like to be lonely
You show me what it feels like to be lost
I'll take your hand for you to let it go let it go let it go let it go
It's gonna be
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be
It's gonna be better
It's gonna be better
(No, it's not)

Translation
Cover art for Halcyon lyrics by Ellie Goulding

We can see that it's about the end of a relationship, but it's clear that only she is fighting to keep it real, it's like only she is loving and feeling the sentimental things of a relationship, a relationship with herself. Sometimes when we love, we lost our ways and live for another person and forgot who we are, giving all and everything for the person who don't care about what you are feeling or the person who dont feel the same feelings that you are feeling. I think the ache is really great in her voice in this song, but if you pay attention, Ellie is saying she is gonna be better, but keeps clearly a voice (like a voice inside her head) behind saying "no, it's not" (before the It's gonna be better part). We can hear it clearly when Ellie sing Halcyon live, we can hear "It's gonna be betta (no, it's not) - and Ellie reinforces as a answer for this sentence in your head - IT'S GONNA BE".

I don't know if I am right, but this is my song interpretation, although she is suffering there's a voice in her head that tells her that those feelings will not be end so soon, but she believes that some day everything will gonna better.

My Interpretation

Halcyon- Denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful. It keeps on repeating 'its gonna be better, its gonna be better' symbolising where the couple are right now is symbolising a period time in the past that was happy and peaceful even if it doesn't seem like it.
