Spitting Image Lyrics

I watched you flare up from the ink
nocturnal glances were surrounding

our legs got sucked in and
our bodies keep on lifting off the sheets
our hands get tied to our minds and
we keep on talking in our sleep

Caspian power moves within me
my circulation thermohaline

our fingers swell up and
our bodies keep on lifting off the sheets
our eyelids collapse and
our limbs and hinges rust into the sea

we all seem to have big plans
we all seem to have

our legs got sucked in and
our bodies keep on lifting off the sheets
our eyelids collapse and
our limbs and hinges rust into the sea

we all seem to have big plans
we all seem to have big plans
we all seem to have

I think it's either about sex or drawing. the chorus definitely sounds like sex. The rest of the song seems unrelated though. You could argue that "circulation thermohaline" talks about increased heart-rate but that's about it. Drawing, "I watched you flare up from the ink", a person drawing and seeing their creation come to life. "our bodies keep on lifting off the sheets our hands get tied to our minds" Sheets of paper maybe? Our hands (which we use to draw) are definitely tied to our minds when we draw. "Big plans" could be to be a famous artist or make money off of your art, or even just you should forget your big plans and just doodle to your hearts content because it's the simple things in life that are important (haha). Or I'm just getting meaning out of nothing and it's completely non related, which for a while I thought it was. Or it's something totally different.

This song is starred on my Spotify. I love the voice of Hayley Jane Batt, especially in this song. I think midnightzone is spot-on about the sex reference.

From Wikipedia:

Thermohaline circulation (THC) is a part of the large-scale ocean circulation that is driven by global density gradients created by surface heat and freshwater fluxes.

So the "my circulation thermohaline" could be referring to the surface heat when two bodies are embracing, and the freshwater fluxes...well, you can take whatever sexual innuendo you want from that. On a simpler note, the line could just be referring to the fact that sex really gets your blood flowing.

I think it's interesting that she trails off: "we all seem to have big plans, we all seem to have..." Like, in sex, you have all these sexual plans, and then, you know, it ends.

But yeah, interesting vibe for a song about sex. Peculiar, but that's Freelance's style.

Happy listening!

Eric
