this is about somebody who’s insecure that’s been treated like crap and doesn’t know how to be in a relationship . And so they negatively self-consciously or not destroy relationships because of their insecurity of the past.

I think this is a song about someone who is negatively viewed by those who don't actually take the time to get to know him, but maybe he's the only one in his family that is trying to keep everything together (possibly where the family faces the danger of poverty). but he refuses to run because he isn't guilty of anything or a wimp and that he's only "one man" and can only do whatever he's able to (not superman). maybe he's a gang member and because of that people expect the worst from him- "give me a reason to turn and run, give me a reason to burn this house down, give me a reason I wish you would"- stereotyping, I guess, and he's saying that he isn't about to lower himself into committing any of the bad things people claim he does.

I think that he's referring to the problems he has with his family. "Feed on me, you know I'm never far." with this line and the next one "Feed off me, like a volture on a deer, hit by a car." He's reffering to his parents. They keep on showering him with his problems, stressing him out constantly. "I don't think that you see what exactly you're doing to me." is a referral to the damage they are actually causing and to him. They keep on stacking up more and more damage, not even realising what exactly they are doing to him and how this is affecting him mentally. He tries to fix it" but of course it's never enough. " Adam wishes for them to give him a reason to actually escape this hell and just end this but of course, that's not an option. There are people telling him that they understand him "but that's just a joke." they have never went through what he actually went through. He has been "awoken by the sound of a mother screaming at night." most probably after another fight she had with his father. He's begging them for "a reason to turn and run." and also "to burn this house down." He isn't used everything to be normal so "give a reason for disaster and I'll be happy ever after." means that when everything is fucked up he actually understands what's happening and that he's used to feeling this way. This is the only situation In which he can actually refer to and think clearly since he's used to being in this position all the time. That's what I think at least.

The lyrics speak of a person who is stuck in a world where only the bad is possible.When a good thing comes in their way,the may pretend that "oh its here ,I trust and believe in this" but only for a while they know whats bound to happen.Its guna go away and when it does its gunna hurt.So either u wait it out till the end,or you leave it behind before it gets to do more damage.As for the part when he says something about the mother screaming at night it could be a personal refrence or just jibber jabber
