I Know You Care Lyrics
"I Know You Care"
Clinging to me
Like a last breath you would breathe
You were like home to me
I don't recognize the street
Please don't close your eyes
Don't know where to look without them
Outside the cars speed by
I never heard them until now
I know you care
I know it is always been there
But there's trouble ahead, I can feel it
You are just saving yourself when you hide it
Yeah, I know you care
I see it in the way you stare
As if there was trouble ahead and you knew it
I'll be saving myself from the ruin
And I know you care
I used to run down the stairs
To the door and I thought you were there
Do you shape through the comfort of us
Two lovers loved out of love
Oh, but I know you care
I know it is always been there
But there's trouble ahead, I can feel it
You are just saving yourself when you hide it
Yeah, I know you care
I see it in the way you stare
As if there was trouble ahead and you knew it
I'll be saving myself from the ruin
And know it wasn't always wrong
But I've never known a winter so cold
Now I don't warm my hands in your coat
But I still hope
'Cause this is how things ought to have been
And I know the worst of it wasn't all that it seemed
Why can't I dream
Why can't I dream
'Cause I know you care
And I know you care
I know you care
I know you care
I know it's always been there
Like a last breath you would breathe
You were like home to me
I don't recognize the street
Don't know where to look without them
Outside the cars speed by

I think of it as holding on to that last person, that last best thing you have, but you know things are going to come to an end soon. However, there is that wish and hope that everything will end up how you imagined, because you do sincerely know that person loves you.
this song is about two friends who have something more than a friendship going on. (I know you care, I know it's always been there) (Yeah, I know you care, I see it in the way that you stare) etc...'
but they aren't saying anything about it because the one doesn't want to get hurt in the long run. (But there is trouble ahead I can feel it, You are just saving yourself when you hide it) (As if there was trouble ahead, and you knew it, I'll be saving myself from the ruin)....etc.
It's fairly straightforward. But the song suggests that they don't see eachother anymore and that he is no longer in her life anymore, so nothing is the same. (You were like home to me, I don't recognize this* street) (Outside the cars speed by, I never heard them until now) ...meaning that she's now noticing the things she hadn't before because she was so captivated by him.
but even if they don't speak, she knows he still cares.
Ellie has stated that this song is about her father who left her siblings and her mother when she was five years old and has bearly seen him since then. She said it is about being in denial
LEMME WIPE MY TEARS REALLY QUICK.
You really are an egotistical piece of sh*t. Did you decide to be one around the same time you concocted your calendar of deception? And how's that working for you in the long run? LOL. ALlow me to wipe my tears really quick as I ponder your success rate.

This interview suggests that it's about her father (her parents divorced when she was a young child and she has no contact with him). The speaker is looking at photographs taken of the two of them when she was little and living in a street she no longer remembers. She's looking for reassurance that he did love her, even though there was 'trouble ahead' and he ended up leaving. The pictures are an image of 'how things ought to have been' and she still dreams of getting that back, somehow.
If you shed a tear over this song (reading the lyric or listening to the MP3), you ought to hear it as the ending music over the credits in the movie "Now Is Good." The movie was heavy enough to watch, but (as is usual) the musical score beneath adds to the impact of a dying girl with a very tender bucket list.
I know! :D I found this song by watching the movie. :) I was so bad watching it, crying to the point of embarrassing.

I love this song so much. And I just cry every time I hear it. I feel that for me, it is about love, and how things can change in a heartbeat. “Two lovers loved out of love” - this suggests to me that there was a spark that was never acted upon until it was too late. My favourite line is “why can I dream” because it makes me think about why we are told to follow our dreams, but we always end up having nightmares. Our dreams are not real and most of the time are fiction created by the mind to please ourselves because life is hard. The struggle we face as humans on the daily basis is difficult, but the weight of what you thought about the night before also impacts the day ahead. If I believe something so much, if I dream about it so much, I will end up thinking it is true. We all will. And I fell for that trap. Why can I dream? Why can I dream if it only leads to sadness when it is not real, when it is not true? If we could believe something about someone, we will believe it is true. Every person we meet, we gather information. We create them as a person who they are not. As the person we want them to be. The person we dream them to be. So, why can I dream? I know you care. Or is that a dream. Is any of it real? Am I framing myself to others in a way that stops them from seeing the real me? Am I making them dream? Is it a delusion? Why can I dream?
