Little Pistol Lyrics
Upon my side
Where it is felt
I pack a little pistol on my pistol belt
I think it might be fear
Of the world
And the way
It makes you feel afraid
Under the skin
Against the skull
They put a little chip so that they know it all
I think I might be scared
Of the world
And the way
It makes you feel afraid
And how it gets in the way
In the way
In the way
In the way
And now I want brimstone
In my garden
I want roses
Set on fire
And I,
Well I want what's best for me
And I,
Well I think I know just what that means
Just what that means
Today I coo
Today I caw
I have a pistol party and I kill them all
I think I might be scared
Of the man and the man with the hand inside
And the women, oh the women, all they do is cry
And I,
Well I lose my mind
I lose my mind
I lose my mind
I lose my mind
And, now, I found brimstone
In my garden
I found roses
Set on fire
And I found jesus
What a liar
Now I trade licks with
Muddy Waters
And I,
Well I found what's best for me
And now, I see no tragedy
And I,
Well I found a burning rose
And now, I won't be packing little pistols
No more

well, i think the song is about world and the corruption, like, roses represent the good people and the people are "burning" them how people try to control others (Under the skin Against the skull They put a little chip so that they know it all I think I might be scared) and how they criticate others and i also think that the part "And I found jesus What a liar Now I trade licks with Muddy Waters" is about loosing the religion AND start insulting others religions
is just my interpretation(also sorry for my english i don't speak english so...)
I think this song is about how fear changes people, and turns them cruel. I believe it also talks about how religion circulates and uses fear, and that they are trying to escape their religion, but feel fear too.
The singer is scared about the world and all the evil there's outside the door, and that they would even get violent to protect themselves (using a "little pistol"). The brimstone and fire (on the roses) may represent god's fury, and they say they found Jesus, a liar, which may mean that they were christian, but they are starting to rethink their religion and trying to make God angry. At the end of the song, they finally find what they wanted, and what was best for them, so that they don't need to harm others anymore to feel safe.
Whoops! I should have put it under "my interpretation"...

Personally, I feel like this song is a message about abuse and the mental illness that comes along with it. As a victim of abuse, that's how I view it anyway. The person who sings this song is a victim of childhood/domestic abuse and is untrusting of the world. They destroy all their relationships because they guard themselves with their 'Little Pistol' (a metaphor for mental illness/PTSD?) handed on to them from their parent or partner. They continue on in life on guard and paranoid, ruining relationships with their pistol. The loud parts of the song is their mind, and them trying to come to terms. At the end lyrics, they find a 'burning rose' (a person/family they can be with and trust) and they won't be packing 'little pistols' (defense mechanisms.). Beautiful song.
I think this song is about a person who believes the world wants to hurt them and they desperately want it to be true so much so something happens to them which "proves them right" or maybe they're convinced otherwise. Through this they're now content and stop trying to prove their point.
It seems like the character has been turned.. evil from fear of the world? "I think it might be fear". "and now I want".. chaos, basically. Then the character went and killed some people, did the things that were "best for" them, and found the chaos they wanted in their garden. They found what was best for them (evil) and saw no tragedy because the fear of the crazy world made them lose their mind.
Like others have said before, I believe it's about fear. How it can twist you into something you never thought you would be, but theres no going back once you have gone too deep... When you fear, you lose control, so it's only natural to want that control back, which can spiral quickly out of hand. Within a few years you could be a completely different person. From pure, being scared, to being the one scaring others.
You think you are doing whats "best for you" but you are only digging yourself a bigger hole, the deeper it is, the harder it is to come back.
Theres two types of people who have control: the ones that had it and have grown so used to it that they don't want to lose it, at almost any cost, and those that feared and fought for control they have.
