Lights Changing Colour Lyrics
It was empty til you came up through the honey
Nothing ever goes as planned
When you’re walking and the lights are changing color
Remember how you held my hand
Remember how you held my hand
How you held
There’s a fire in your chest
I see the flame
They better watch it if they pick a fight
Hold that fire when the day it comes
It always comes
You feel you’ll never get it right
You’re never gonna get it right
You’re gonna get it
Hold on
Let it turn around
Spin another way
Hold on
You hit the edge of the
edge of the
edge of the day
Some people want it when you’ve got in your pocket
And they leave you if there’s nothing left
When you find that the ones that keep you lifted
Love them cuz they keep you out of your head
they keep you out of your head
They keep you steady
Hold on
Let it turn around
Spin another way
Hold on
You hit the edge of the
Edge of

One of my favorites off The North. Beautiful sound and such nostalgic lyrics.
Amy has said in an interview that she wrote this song about her daughter Delphine, who was born in 2011, a year before this album was released. I think it's referring to life being empty and less meaningful before Delphine was born (nothing ever goes as planned is perhaps hinting that Amy's pregnancy wasn't planned or expected) but she wants Delphine to remember the little things, like how Amy always held her hand. The whole song is Amy giving her daughter advice about life. It's an amazing song!
I love this song. Perhaps it's the best off The North for me. This album seems to be very underrated, which is a shame because it's a great album just like all their others.
I think this song is about Amy joining the band and how they all really came together and clicked as a band. Amy's released a solo album called, "Honey From the Tombs," before she joined Stars, and the Evan Cranley, the bassist of Stars (and Amy's husband) worked on it with her as well. Although it's sung by Amy, I don't think it's from her point of view; I think it's more the voice of the band coming together and speaking about this amazing thing they have.
To me this song is talking about not taking things for granted.
