The concept behind this song seems to be heavily based on Daphne DuMaurier's book 'Rebecca'. In short: girl marries man who seemed to be extremely devoted to his previous wife and now feels as though she is "in her shadow".
This song is about someone in a new relationship with someone who had just gotten out of a long relationship that ended badly. Paloma is picking up the pieces of what the other woman did to the person she loves.
