Steel and Blood Lyrics

I need your eyes for a connection
Every blink you give away, I lose
You gave it free, it's gone
Spinning off into space alone

And the bourbon's good at this point
Crack the seal and spin the top away
Yea, the bourbon's full at this point
Come on baby, erase it with me

Two become one
Cacophony of a car crash
Steel and blood
And it's over with the silence

I need your eyes to stay connected
Keep on looking into mine
Don't move
Don't speak, don't speak
Everything's gonna be fine

And the Bourbon's on pavement
Shattered bottle in the front seat
And it's broken on the pavement
Come on baby, don't slip away

Two become one
Cacophony of a car crash
Steel and blood
And it's over with the silence

She's bleeding out, call the ambulance
These shaking hands are soaked in red
I'll be by your bedside, when you come to
Come to me
I'll be by your bedside, when you come to
Come to me
I'll be by your bedside
Come to me
I'll be by your bedside
Come to me
I'll be by your bedside
Come to me
I'll be by your bedside
Come to me

Two become one
Cacophony of a car crash
Steel and blood
And it's over with the silence

Two become one
Cacophony of a car crash
Steel and blood
And it's over with the silence

Changed a couple things and fixed some spelling. Comforting seems to be the word people use in the chorus a lot, but it's actually cacophony. "Cacophony: A harsh, discordant mixture of sounds"

I need your eyes for our connection Every blink you give away, I lose You gave it free, it's gone Spinning off into space alone And the bourbon's full at this point Crack the seal and spin the top away Yeah bourbon's full at this point Come on baby, erase it with me

Two become one The cacophony of a car crash Steel and blood, and it's over with the silence

I need your eyes to stay connected Keep on looking into mine Don't move, don't speak, don't speak Everything's gonna be fine And the bourbons on pavement Shattered bottle in the front seat And it's broaken on the pavement Come on baby, don't slip away

Two become one The cacophony of a car crash Steel and blood, and it's over with the silence

She's bleeding out, call an ambulance These shaking hands are soaking wet I'll be by your bedside, when you come to Come to me I'll be by your bedside, when you come to Come to me I'll be by your bedside Come to me I'll be by your bedside Come to me I'll be by your bedside Come to me I'll be by your bedside Come to me

Two become one The cacophony of a car crash Steel and blood, and it's over with the silence

Two become one The cacophony of a car crash Steel and blood, and it's over with the silence

Lyric Correction

Broken not broaken. Fat fingered.

Another fix:

"Come on baby, erase it with me" Should be, "Come on baby, embrace it with me."

The song is obviously about a car crash throughout. Possibly about drunk driving.

Starts with a couple driving along after picking up a bottle of bourbon and are either drinking and driving or heading somewhere to drink it.

"And the bourbon's full at this point Crack the seal and spin the top away Yeah bourbon's full at this point Come on baby, erase it with me"

During the drinking or before getting where they're going, they're in an accident which gets us into the chorus. "A cacophony of a car crash" refers to the mix of sounds that a heard including the screeching of tires, crushing metal, breaking glass, screams, etc. A cacophony is defined as, "A harsh, discordant mixture of sounds" The last chorus line refers to the silence after a crash from the vehicle stopping and the shock of what happened.

After the crash the person who's perspective is written in the song is trying to keep the injured person, the girlfriend presumably, awake and responding to him to prevent death or a coma. During the accident the bottle of bourbon broke and has poured out into the street.

"I need your eyes to stay connected Keep on looking into mine Don't move, don't speak, don't speak Everything's gonna be fine And the bourbons on pavement Shattered bottle in the front seat And it's broken on the pavement Come on baby, don't slip away"

The person is very seriously injured and the first person/story teller is trying to get help after noticing. It seems that the injured person has gone into a coma. The story teller is waiting for beckoning them to wake up and saying they'll wait until then.

She's bleeding out, call an ambulance These shaking hands are soaking wet (unsure of the last two words in this line) I'll be by your bedside, when you come to Come to me

Song Meaning

Saw a video of the band playing this acoustically and Jake said the song is how relationships can be like car crashes some times. The parallels are totally there: Crazy damaging event (car crash) followed by recovery times and really caring for someone.

I originally just thought that this was just a story about a car crash, but I feel like it's really about how much he realizes that he cares about this girl after the car crash. The whole "I'll be by your bedside" part really has a lot of emotion in it. Plus, he uses the wording "two become one" which almost puts a romantic twist on this horrible incident.

My Interpretation

The song is one long metaphor. The collision is when the two become one - the intensity of their relationship, she bleeds for him.

The opposite of love is indifference. When he realizes how in love with her he truly is, she's already been severally hurt by him.

He knows to keep her hanging on, he needs to see her, because he knows he can make her fall in love again but only if he can get her in person. So he is waiting for her for when she comes to, comes around- if you will.
