It seems the song is about Chad rejecting christianity because it seeks to look down about the individual.

"My love is dead and bruised" - Religion can do that

From his overall body of work we can gather he has been in therapy and a major part of therapy is re-discovering oneself... I think that is the 'Bigger God' he is talking about
