Shadow

This song is basically about

1. this girl that really likes this guy and wishes to be more but he just likes her as a friend but really thinks she's a great person so when she found out that he didn't feel the same way as her, that he is not interested in her and won't like her back she tries to stay away from him to try to forget him and not like him anymore but he misses her and likes how she is trying not to like him anymore.
2. "Oh why is your hate so addicting and I well I wonder where you've been I don't see you often"
3. he does know that she's a great person and likes her as a human being and tries to like her back like she does but he just can't so that's why he only offers his friendship or shadow(Meaning she won't have him as his love of her life but only as a friend just like a shadow is the shade of an object but not the actual object)
4. "I try to feel something for you but that's all that I can do give my shadow to you"
5. he wonders if she still thinks of him or dreams of him and if it still pleases her like it use to leaning her head on the wall thinking of him
6. "Do you ever see me at night and does it please you at all with your head up the wall"
7. he still thinks she's a great human being and wants her to be happy and would like to give her a chance but he just knows it wouldn't get to far because he doesn't like her like that and feels that he would just never fall in love with her because they don't know eachother very very well and he would not want to risk it to not break her heart in case he doesn't ever fall in love with her.
8. "I'd go with you if you want me to but it wouldn't get to far two strangers in the dark" »So maybe that's why the song is tilted shadow because he does not want to give himself out to her too much to the point of breaking her heart.

the whole song is dedicated to him talking to a shadow (head up the wall, do you ever see me at night), this means that he is talking about what he feels about himself--the reflection of his shadow. when he talks about not seeing his shadow often, it must mean he lives in the dark... physically and mentally ("I try to feel something for you But that's all that I can do give my shadow to you")

To me it says that someone is addicted to a lover whom they can't love, though they would like to. The lover is in love with the singer, but acts with hate since he/she knows that the love will not be requinted. The singer can only offer a shadow of himself, not who he truely is, because he cannot love him/her though he is addicted to the hate and love that the lover provides. They don't even truely know eachother at all.

Third line is "I don't see you often" not "and I'll see you under"

The third line on the third stanza is "when you head up the wall"

It should be corrected to "with your head up the wall"
