The thought of her going away for even just a second makes him plead NO! When I listen to this song I smile everytime. It's about right after they have sex. And he is trying to hold on the the moment. She's fading asleep and he's asking her to stay open to the moment (and more completely open to the relationship) because they are in a moment of a natural spring of positive emotions.

He says, "I want to make this plain," so many times, it's clear that he can't make his emotions plain. He's trying to get her to stay with him so he can express himself, but she's falling asleep.

For a fun comparison, look at Kendrick Lamar's Poetic Justice. In it he asks, "If I told you that a flower bloomed in a dark room would you trust it?" asking if she trusts the fact that he feels closer to her right after sex. So they are talking about the same thing in different ways. In the end they are both pleading with their partners to understand but both he and Rhye have trouble expressing their emotions.

To me, this is a clear gap. She's free, impulsive and miss to see the same "fire" in his eyes. He has nearly closed his eyes = turned away from her. She's still on the plain... A place that is either open, wild and free or delineated by a complete or partial ring of hills, by mountains or cliffs (safety and away from all civilisation... like being in the skies). Neither way, she's still where they were in the beginning; at that beautiful plain. But his love has faded.

I think this person is still madly in love--or thinks he is--and his lover is slowly falling out of love. He's asking his lover to look at the goodness of their relationship, even with a tiny sting now and then, and make that the reason to stay.

maybe it's me just being too literal, but i think that the song means just what she says. she's a fool for this person, and wants them to stay awake when they are really tired so that she can spend more time with them.

God, such a great song, To me, I take a lot of the lyrics at face value. It seems like this song really is about a modern relationships. When I listen to this song I imagine two lovers laying in bed together just after having sex. They're just in a casual relationship or FWB or something uncommitted. The one she's singing about is literally faded (high). She wants something more from him (or her) because she's a fool for what she sees in him and she wants him to know it. But she knows it doesn't matter to him so she only tells him while he's high, post-coitus and just before falling asleep, the time when it's least likely to sink in.

reminds me of a girl and guy that wants to be together, but the guy is married so they cant. She's know she's a fool for falling for someone unavailable. When they spend time together she wants him to stay. Great song
