Cry for Judas Lyrics

Some things you do just to see
How bad they'll make you feel
Sometimes you try to freeze time
'Til those thoughts are a blur of spinning wheels

But I am just a broken machine
And I do things that I don't really mean

Long black night, morning frost
I'm still here, but all is lost

Speed up to the precipice
And then slam on the brakes
Some people crash two or three times
And then learn from their mistakes

But we are the ones who don't slow down at all
And there's nobody there to catch us when we fall

Long black night, morning frost
I'm still here, but all is lost

Feel the storm every night, hope it passes by
Hallucinate a shady grove where Judas went to die

Unfurl the black velvet altar cloth
Draw a white chalk baphomet
Mistreat your altar boys long enough
And this is what you get

Sad and angry, can't learn how to behave
Still won't know how in the darkness of the grave

Long black night, morning frost
I'm still here, but all is lost

It's about not fitting in and not having the safety net that you might have wished for, and turning that pain and failure in on itself to the point where the lines are blurred. This is a song for people that need to take things further than most people to feel anything at all, but that still doesn't fix their problems.

Nobody's better than Darnielle at writing such happy, upbeat songs about utter hopelessness.

Judas was a guy in the Bible who was an apostle, meaning that he was one of Jesus's best friends and closest followers basically. But one day, helped a bunch of arresting priests find Jesus so they could arrest him. Judas betrayed his favorite guy in the world, and then hung himself. Judas did stuff that he knew was wrong.

It's hard to explain, but if you've ever been in a certain state of mind, you will relate to Judas an you will understand this song perfectly. I have been there, and this is one of the best songs you will ever hear.
