Cartographist Lyrics
We'll bathe often in the light of the moon
We'll sew clothes from the stem of our womb
We'll bathe often in the light of the moon
We'll sew clothes from the stem of our womb
Oh, my sweet fairy, the past is strong
Touch not my bosom, for I'll not get far
Colour your cartography in your dreams of me
Maps will not lie, will not lie, will not lie in me
Grow into gardens
The caverns you found in me
Heal off the weightless
You held from the start of me
Oh, my sweet fairy, our hearts did us wrong
But rudders of bodies doth carry us on, on
And more moons than our eyes can recount and store
Yet they bid that we see the same things
Sweet they bid, that we swim in their seas
We'll sew clothes from the stem of our womb
We'll bathe often in the light of the moon
We'll sew clothes from the stem of our womb
Touch not my bosom, for I'll not get far
Colour your cartography in your dreams of me
Maps will not lie, will not lie, will not lie in me
The caverns you found in me
Heal off the weightless
You held from the start of me
But rudders of bodies doth carry us on, on
And more moons than our eyes can recount and store
Yet they bid that we see the same things
Sweet they bid, that we swim in their seas

as written on the vinyl sleeve:
we'll bathe often in the light of the moon we'll sew clothes from the stem of our womb
oh my sweet fairy the past is strong touch not my bosom for i'll not get far color your cartography in your dreams of me maps will not lie in me grow into gardens the caverns you found in me heal off the weightless you held from the start of me
oh my sweet fairy our hearts did us wrong but rudders of body's doth carry us on and more moons than our eyes can recount and store yet they bid that we see the same things sweet they bid that we swim in their seas
This song is about two lovers let down by love and today's youth obsessed with sex "Oh, my sweet fairy, the past is strong Touch not my bosom, for I'll not get far"
Something else about that line is that actions and routes people take in their lives don't lie.
"and more moons than our eyes can recount and store yet they bid that we see the same things sweet they bid that we swim in their seas " Before they met, they felt as if the world would try to change them
This couple found hope and a similar view and experience in each other, and why she believes only her new found partner can fill the caverns inside her ( not sexually, but emotionally and far deeper)
Correct lyrics, or not, this song is amazing. The beat is otherworldly.
Their lyrics are always about body parts in a romantic way. No wonder the album cover has a little cute girl and two lungs. Btw, i love it.
Have to agree, this song is amazing. I do think, however, this song is probably about resisting a break up with someone you may love, OR, maybe, imaging a failed relationship between the singer and someone new...in any case I think it's about a relationship.
(We'll bathe often in the light of the moon) Dates often take place at night, and the "we'll" indicates future tense.
(We'll sew clothes from the stem of our womb) womb, I'm guessing, in this case, means creation, as in creating memories together
(Oh, my sweet fairy, the past is strong) The past memories of a relationship can be a strong force.
(Touch not my bosom, for I'll not get far) and maybe even more strong is the force of sexuality.
(Colour your cartography in your dreams of me) as they separate, wishing [maybe] that he/she dream of her.
(Maps will not lie, will not lie, will not lie in me) Maybe an admission that the singer will probably dream of them too.
(Grow into gardens / The caverns you found in me) I see this as a 'cherish our memory' sorta thing
(heal off the weightless / you held from the start of me) a wish of healing for the scorned lover, since feeling 'weightlessness' isn't uncommon when in love
(oh my sweet fairy our hearts did us wrong /but rudders of body's doth carry us on) the first line I think is self explanatory, but the second seems to indicate that maybe the only thing carrying them on is the physical part of their relationship.
(and more moons than our eyes can / recount and store) maybe a plea to the past to keep things going, a 'we've been together this long, already', sorta thing.
(yet they bid that we see the same things / sweet they bid that we swim in their seas ) these are probably the hardest lines to figure out. My best guess would be that friends are [maybe] encouraging them to stay together since they 'see the same things' or 'swim in the their seas' meaning they want them to maintain harmony to keep friendships together.
(Well then, the unborn woods are calling / Lie down to keep our heads from falling) I get the feeling they're both unhappy, but are willing to stay together.
(Kill them then bury seeds beneath me / Measure thy deeds in due time harvest) Kill them, as in, kill the thoughts of breaking up, and the harvest as in seeing what will come.
i think it is more about her trying to forget a past love, and her being hurt, so she cannot trust anyone new...she is afraid to get close, so trying to touch her bosom, or heart will not get far, she has a wall up...but she still thinks about this past love, and its like a fairy tale... the bit about cartography is she wants him to think of her and be guided by that, but she wont tell him how to go about it...she doesnt posess the map to give to him, or wont guide him...because she is wandering...
