Grandloves Lyrics

take all the little things away
seek all the dimensions that stray
from my eyes
dig holes in me with wooden carved trowels
hold still in me the hops
that left it’s guard down

waking up is easy but you're breaking my whole thesis
I'm gone, feel it but you're flowing with the shaman, and another thing
I'm in love with truth and sick and tired of this youth
and thinking that you're falling but you're stalling when you're holding me

I’ll grow bitters on the borders of your whistling skin
I’ll sew pockets of the locks that fall from your bristling chin
keep all my secrets in the trinkets
dangling from the walls
take what you are make it sacramental

I'm in love with truth and sick and tired of this youth
I want it to be easy but I'm queasy at the thought of it
I don't need no proof no lucky charm no wisdom tooth
to know it in the same way of that feeling when you're loving me...

brew you a warm drink out of
my tattered hulls
build you thick paper out of
my clumsy skull
soundly discreet make
your bouldering shoulders glow
my grand loves
I’ll not finish what I done started

I'm sick of this, you sick of that, I'm not as dumb as that
(my sacred pining whims, my sacred vining whims)

I’ll stake rare toothpicks in my dirt filled heart
meander the sacred lot of you
in every season

you are invincible
you hold it for your halo song

Purity Ring is one of those artists where every time you hear the album you find a new song to get obsessed with. First it was belispeak, then obedear, then lofticries and now it's grandloves.

I don't know about meaning, but I think (to me) it's these two people that are so utterly in love with each other, but neither tells the other and it's hurting them both.

What do you guys thing?

My Interpretation

i think it is unrequited love, the girl is trying to hide her feelings and wants him to guess at the right thing to do to win her over, he has these preconceived ideas of how it should go and doesnt get that women think differently, he thinks it should just be easy...but hes nervous in spite of his fantasy...she says she is not going to finish what she started because she expects him to be the man and take her...to intuit her...he loves her, but he thinks it should be straight forward in a typical guy way, truth over...

i'm hearing thing a little different from y'all

in the second verse: Waking up is easy but you’re breaking my roll, flee system (?) (maybe 'whole thesis'? i dunno) I’m gonna feel it but you're flown (?) with the shame and iconography I’m in love with truth, sick and tired of this youth And thinking that you’ve fallen but you’re stone when you’re holding me

and in the fourth: I’m in love with truth, but sick and tired of this youth Want it to be easy, but I’m queasy at the thought of it I don’t need no proof, no lucky charm, no wisdom tooth To know it as the same way of that feeling, walkin over me.

Whole thesis is the first thing I thought - because it makes sense, but I just can't hear him pronounce thesis. So I don't know.

I definitely disagree about the iconography part - there's no 'icon' that I can hear.

I can see how you could hear "no lucky charm." But when I listen repeatedly through some clear headphones I disagree.

I don't know what difference it would make but what quality are you listening too and how are you listening? I've tried my 700W speaker system and headphones with the 320kb/s

She is in deep love with the guy that it is a spiritual thing for her. he understands that she is in love with and he loves her too, but on a earthly realm. its like two beings from separate planets in love.

he accepts that she takes her spiritual life seriously but he cant see just how much she loves him. Her love surpasses human understanding, to the point she considers him an idol that she wants to glorify him with love.

My Opinion

@jeanna1004 amazing breakdown, agree very much with it

These lyrics are hard to hear and I think you did a pretty good job at doing so, but there are a couple lines I hear differently

"Waking up is easy but you’re breaking my whole pieces"

I’m in love with truth, sick and tired of this youth Want it to be easy, but I’m queasy at the thought of it I don’t need no proof, no, look at ya’ll, no, [it's] the truth

Lyric Correction

That ambiguous part that you thinking is "my whole pieces" is really bothering me. I can't discern whole pieces either.

I don't think/want it to be what I suggested because it's not sensible. If he says system the t is silent. :/

There is definitely a hard 'ca' or 'k' sound between 'no,' and 'the truth'.

I have the LP and the vinyl insert says, "thesis."
