Fineshrine Lyrics

Get a little closer, let fold
Cut open my sternum, and pull
My little ribs around you
The rungs of me be under, under you

I’ll cut the soft pockets, let bleed
Over the rocky cliffs that you leave
To peer over and not forget what feet are
Splitting threads of thunder over me

That I might see with my chest and sink
Into the edges 'round you
Into the lakes of quarries that brink
On all the edges 'round you

Get a little closer, let fold
Cut open my sternum, and pull
My little ribs around you
The rungs of me be under, under you

Get a little closer, let fold
Cut open my sternum, and pull
My little ribs around you
The rungs of me be under, under you

I’ll cut the soft pockets, let bleed
Over the rocky cliffs that you leave
To peer over and not forget what feet are
Splitting threads of thunder over me

Listen closely, closely to the floor
Emitting all it’s graces through the pores
You make a fine shrine in me
You build a fine shrine in me

That I might see with my chest and sink
Into the edges 'round you
Into the lakes of quarries that brink
On all the edges 'round you

Get a little closer, let fold
Cut open my sternum, and pull
My little ribs around you
The lungs of me be under, under you

Get a little closer, let fold
Cut open my sternum, and pull
My little ribs around you
The rungs of me be under, under you

"That's just a love song. It really is."

"Yeah, 'Belispeak' is more about a forceful relationship, but I think 'Fineshrine' is more like a desirable relationship with someone you love."

I got the record in the mail a few days early, and the lyrics are printed on the record sleeve, so here are the lyrics as they appear on the album:

get a little closer, let fold cut open my sternum, and pull my little ribs around you the lungs of me be crowns over you get a little closer, let fold cut open my sternum, and pull my little ribs around you the rungs of me be under, under you

I'll cut the soft pockets, let bleed over the rocky cliffs that you leave to peer over and not forget what feet are splitting threads of lightning over me

that I might see with my chest and sink into the edges round you into the lakes of quarry's that brink on all the edges round you

listen closely, closely to the floor emitting all it's graces through the pores you make a fine shrine in me you build a fine shrine in me

Lyric Correction

just as an fyi for anyone wondering the functionality for the poster to update lyrics has apparently been removed or is otherwise bugged and i can't update it anymore

You say these lyrics are from the album sleeve? in the song she clearly says, "splitting threads of THUNDER over me", not, "splitting threads of LIGHTNING over me" Is it printed wrong on the sleeve?

I think the song is about her wanting her man to be closer to her, in her arms isn't enough she wants him in here rib cage close to her heart. At least that's my interpretation.

My Interpretation

Great comment! I agree.

This song seems extremely sexual to me. It's an interesting and fresh take on sensuality.

The opening is about entering both the person and the heart, and then my little ribs around you could be around the heart, or perhaps arms around someone or the feel of a woman around a man's part. Hence through arms, or maybe under, under you.

Going through it all sounds tiresome, but the whole song fits in this manner. The London Baby is her.

Song Meaning

yeah it is very, in a classy way...not too overt, more suggestive...but its really about her wanting him inside her in more than one way...and her feeling alive...even the pain of life is worth it to be alive...i think this is how all women see a love affair, whether it is a commitment or not...

My Opinion

I believe this song is about loving someone and giving them a permanent place in your heart even though you know there will be pain because they are or will leave. Perhaps the lover is dying, or they know the relationship is temporary.

-- Love and letting someone into your heart --

get a little closer, let fold cut open my sternum, and pull my little ribs around you the lungs of me be crowns over you

-- Pain, because their presence is temporary and knowing they will leave --

I'll put the South pockets gladly Over the rocky cliffs that you leap To peer over and not forget what feet are Splitting threads of thunder over me

-- But still giving the lover a permanent place in their heart --

You make a fine shrine in me You build a fine shrine in me

It is a beautiful, moving song describing quite vicerally how much of a sacrifice it is to love someone.

My Interpretation

Let me guess. The remedy is to love someone in dreams so they can never leave? So they depart in real life because they are unfullfilled, but at least they're still in dreams? And that's comforting to some people? Amazing.

I'll put the South pockets gladly Over the rocky cliffs that you leap

It almost sounds like "I'll take the sad/side pockets, let bleed" That's a tough line to hear correctly

My little ribs around you Though arms may be under, under you

I think this line is "My little ribs around you, through arms, or maybe under, under you"

Lyric Correction

yep they're the hardest.

"I'll put the South pockets gladly" "Let bleed" does fit better than "gladly", it definitely sounds like she sings "let (something)" but I can't properly make out that final word. I will change it anyway, but either I think something preceding it needs to change or "bleed" is incorrect.

"Through arms, or maybe under, under you" I've changed it to your suggestion. I know what we said the first two words were are wrong though, it sounds more like "the runs of may be under, under you."...

This song is about willing human sacrifice, literally. It's gruesome. It's a story of obsession towards something or someone divine. She's pretty straightforward with the " Cut open my sternum, and pull" she's giving her organs away...

Another point to back this up is that the album cover has a goat or a sheep on it, these are animals commonly used in a sacrifice ritual.

The music video also backs this up. She's not singing about her "soul" she means literally her innards to be spilt out into the floor in front of the shrine. This song is about pure devotion, and inflicting self harm to express it. Because blood is the most vital thing you could give away.

She's so infatuated with this being that she happily sacrifices her body, that's why she sounds so nice when she's singing, she's at peace.

But this song is so much darker and scary than people take it for.

@TasteTheWake Yup. Ritual human sacrifice couldn't be clearer. It boggles my mind that people take this as a love song. Like what kinda relationship you gotta be in to make THAT connection?

@TasteTheWake The fetus theory is sweet, but you may be more on point. Gotta go watch that video WITHOUT MY DAUGHTERS.

It's "let fold" not "fault"

also "fine shrine in me" not "to"

Well, I think that it's right the idea of a relation but I think it's more... lovely? when I listen to the song it gives me the feeling of a person who really want the "abuser" to abuse her... But in a good way... somehow seems to me, It's like she is in love with him and she is completely committed to that person. Like if she only wants to be with him and entrust her entire body and soul to the "lucky guy"

My Opinion

I think she is trying to say that the man she loves is killing her. She loves him with everything inside her; she wants to completely drown within him. But he just doesn't feel as strongly for her. She is desperate to prove to him she is worth his love.
