We Are The Others Lyrics
I'm walking with Sophie tonight,
She lives in the air that I breath;
I can't get it out of my mind
How you were left to bleed...
Was it how you dress?
Or how you act?
I can't believe
How they could act so violently,
Without regret,
We will not forget...
We are the others,
We are the cast outs,
We're the outsiders
But you can't hide us,
We are the others,
We are the cast outs
You're no longer on your own
If you feel mistreated,
Torn and cheated,
You're not alone,
We are the others
(We are the others)
As simple as air in your lungs,
As simple as words on your lips,
And no one should take that away,
No one should have killed this
Now with our heads up high,
We'll carry on,
And carry out,
And we won't let them get us down,
Wear us out,
'Cause we are not alone...
We are the others,
We are the cast outs,
We're the outsiders
But you can't hide us,
We are the others,
We are the cast outs
You're no longer on your own
If you feel mistreated,
Torn and cheated,
You're not alone,
We are the others
(We are the others)
Normal is not the norm,
It's just the uniform...
(We are the others)
Forget about the norms,
(We're the outsiders)
Take off your uniform,
(We are the others)
We are beautiful,
(We are the others)
We are the others,
We are the cast outs,
We're the outsiders
But you can't hide us,
We are the others,
We are the cast outs
You're no longer on your own
If you feel mistreated,
Torn and cheated,
You're not alone,
We are the others
(We are the others)
We are the others,
We are the others.

Vocalist Charlotte Wessels commented that this song is inspired by Sophie Lancaster, a girl who was murdered in the UK in 2007 with her boyfriend by a group of teenagers because she was goth. The The album is dedicated to her.
"I remember when I first heard about it … it wasn’t on Dutch news, I just heard about it through Internet networks and the goth scene … there was this movie made about it, a short film of about four minutes. I saw it, and I just cried. It’s so incredibly sad! After seeing the movie, I didn’t really DO anything with it until we were working on “We Are The Others.” But the basic idea of the lyrics was there. It was just supposed to be a song about “we are the others” and a feeling of togetherness. On the one hand, being proud of whoever you are, whether you divert from the norm in whatever way you divert from the norm. But on the other hand, it is also kind of a song for “others”. We just wanted a song about acceptance.” –Charlotte Wessels, SonicCathedral.com interview
Listening to this song right now-pretty good stuff. I feel especially touched that this is a tribute to Sophie Lancaster. What happened was a true crime of hatred...should no other individual ever die in the name of prejudice. I am sure so many of us outcasts and "different" people can relate to this anthem and the horrible tragedy of Sophie
