These Chains Lyrics
My love is kind to you
My love is blind for you
My love is right for you
I know it is, my boo
I save my eyes for you
I save my sight for you
I save my ears for you
Do you hear me, my boo?
These chains you bound around my heart complete me, baby
I would not be free
These chains you bound around my heart complete me, baby
I would not be free
Explain the bond around my heart
It's not chain since we first made our start
Explain the bond around my heart
It's not chain since we first made out, we first made out
These chains you bound around my heart complete me, baby
I would not be free
These chains you bound around my heart complete me, baby
I would not be free
These chains you bound around my heart complete me, baby
I would not be free
My love is blind for you
My love is right for you
I know it is, my boo
I save my eyes for you
I save my sight for you
I save my ears for you
Do you hear me, my boo?
I would not be free
These chains you bound around my heart complete me, baby
I would not be free
It's not chain since we first made our start
Explain the bond around my heart
It's not chain since we first made out, we first made out
I would not be free
I would not be free
These chains you bound around my heart complete me, baby
I would not be free

it seems like a reflection of his position toward a person with whom he is in love. i get the sense that he is deeply committed to this person, regardless of reciprocity. together they started a love, and that what is initiated his being chained to the person with love and loyalty. but, there is no mention of a semblance of receiving the same love and loyalty. it seems like a one sided thing, giving but not receiving. it's a sad situation, but i know very well that it's a reality for many.

This song is love song for a new baby couched in a standard "ball and chain" love song for a mutual. Note the emphasis on lines like "complete me.... baby." and that the song is constructed around samples of a baby cooing.
This is a song about how the things that tie you down can actually set you free if you let them, as demonstrated in: "These chains you bound around my heart complete me." Additionally "I would not be free" he's saying that without being bound to women he's with, it would be impossible to be truly free. Basically he's challenging the idea of freedom, and what makes an individual free.
