Curse Lyrics

She barely knew your name
He was just a city, she's just a dirt road
but that never meant a thing
running from the country, she needed out but, he held that diamond ring

Cause I can't sit oh I cant talk
I gotta leave this town and run to you
curse these nights that speak your name
I gotta leave this town and come to you
break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh)
ha ha ha
break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh)
she barely knew your name

He was such a worry
no need to hurry
those streets are slick at night
she would never listen
she left it all and headed towards the light
oh your eyes look tired
but love was all she knew
screaming out in agony she gave her life for you

Cause I can't sit oh I cant talk
I gotta leave this town and run to you
curse these nights that speak your name
I gotta leave this town and come to you
break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh)
ha ha ha
break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh)
she barely knew your name

Cause I can't sit oh I cant talk
I gotta leave this town and run to you
curse these nights that speak your name
I gotta leave this town and come to you
break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh)
ha ha ha
break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh)
she barely knew your name

This song actually reminds me a lot of something that just happened to me.

"She barely knew your name He was just a city, she's just a dirt road But that never meant a thing Running from the country, she needed out but He held that diamond ring"

Personally, I think this part could be about a girl who falls for a guy, but feels she isn't good enough for him, or that it will never work. The two would be from totally different lifestyles and all. 'She barely knew your name' could very possibly signify that these 2 have just met; love at first sight. As when I met the person this song reminds me of, that was the case.

'Cause I can't sit oh I cant talk I gotta leave this town and run to you Curse these nights that speak your name I gotta leave this town and come to you Break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh) Ha ha ha Break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh) She barely knew your name'

To me, this part is either of the two saying; Why is this happening to me? Why do I love this person I barely know? This will only lead to drama, and to heart break.

'He was such a worry No need to hurry Those streets are slick at night She would never listen She left it all and headed towards the light Oh your eyes look tired But love was all she knew Screaming out in agony she gave her life for you'

This part speaks to me most. At this point, it seems its the girl who fell for the boy, much like my situation. So now, it seems this boy has gotten to know the girl, and the two are at least friends. But this boy doesn't realize how much the girl loves him. How she would do anything; even die for him

So that was basically my opinion on this song. Sorry if you don't agree, since I am speaking from personal experience. XD

"She barely knew your name He was just a city, she's just a dirt road But that never meant a thing Running from the country, she needed out but He held that diamond ring"

The girl here, doesn't have much self esteem, and she'd fall in love with guys fairly easily. Here, it's love at first sight, yet she feels that she isn't good enough for him. While he, on the other hand, wants to become friends with her, and he's reaching out. But the girl is frightened, still believing that he's too good for her, even though he's so tempting.

Cause I can't sit oh I cant talk I gotta leave this town and run to you Curse these nights that speak your name I gotta leave this town and come to you Break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh) Ha ha ha Break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh) She barely knew your name

Still, no matter how much she tries to leave it behind, she loves him. But even after he tried to befriend her, she ran off. When she's rethinking everything, she realizes how much she loves him, and wishes to be with him.

He was such a worry No need to hurry Those streets are slick at night She would never listen She left it all and headed towards the light Oh your eyes look tired But love was all she knew Screaming out in agony she gave her life for you

Eventually, the girl finds the courage to return to him. Even when she's terrified of being rejected, she continues to try to be friendly. But soon, the boy falls in love with a different girl, and the first girl is depressed. Soon, she finally surrenders her happiness and realizes that her life isn't worth much.

My Interpretation
Cover art for Curse lyrics by Imagine Dragons

I think this is about a girl (Dirt Road) who is forced to marry someone she doesn't love. "She Barely Knew Your Name" could mean that she doesn't have any interest in him.

"He was just a city, she's just a dirt road." We discover here that she is in love with another person a (City) who loves her back, but she can't be with him because she has to marry the other guy. The guy is a city and her a dirt road simply means they are different, possibly even opposites. "But that never meant a thing" (but this difference doesn't matter to them).

'Running from the country, she needed out, but He held that diamond ring" She wanted to leave, to run away, to be with her lover, but the other guy had already proposed

Cause I can't sit. oh I can't talk I gotta leave this town and run to you Curse these nights that speak your name I gotta leave this town and come to you Break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh) Ha ha ha Break (oh) this (oh) curse (oh) I think this part is her conscience talking to her, wanting to leave this hellhole to run away to her lover. She wants to leave town to run to him and wants to Break this curse, of being forced into marrying someone she doesn't love back.

"He was such a worry No need to hurry" This guy she has to marry was a worry, a problem, so she decided to leave, she told her lover that she was going to run away to be with him, but he was scared for her and advised her not to.

"Those streets are slick at night" It’s nighttime, and the streets are dangerous and slippery because the rain.

"She would never listen" She didn't listen to him

"Oh, your eyes look tired But love was all she knew Screaming out in agony she gave her life for you" Driving in a thunderstorm at night, she started to feel tired. All she cared about was him, but she crashed the car and died, giving her life while trying to get to her lover.

"She left it all and headed towards the light" At first, I thought that the light meant her lover and that she was running to him, but she died because of the crash meaning she left for Heaven (referred to here as the light)
