Landline (feat. Ingrid Michaelson) Lyrics

I think the tree may fall in the front yard
If this storm has its way
I hear you dancing on the floorboards above
Unaware of what’s at stake

All I ever needed was a landline
Just in case the power lines go down
All I needed would never be enough for me

I think the storm might take the screen door
If the wind gets its way
I hear you singing on the floor just below
Unaware of what’s at stake

All I ever needed was a landline
Just in case the power lines go down
All I needed would never be enough for me [x3]

All I needed would never be enough for me [x12]

I think its pretty obvious but I think the storm/winds what have you symbolize a conflict or struggle in the relationship. While the only thing they needed (the landline, if you missed it...) was something more stable and more reliable than a relationship based on something fake. They both seem aware of this and believe that the relationship is not working out from both parties.
