Love Interruption Lyrics

I want love to, roll me over slowly
Stick a knife inside me, and twist it all around.

I want love to, grab my fingers gently
Slam them in a doorway, put my face into the ground.

I want love to, murder my own mother and
Take her off to somewhere like hell or up above.

I want love to change my friends to enemies,
Change my friends to enemies and show me how it's all my fault.

I won't let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me
I won't let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me
Yeah I won't let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me anymore.

I want love to, walk right up and bite me
Grab a hold of me and fight me leave me dying on the ground.

And I want love to, split my mouth wide open and
Cover up my ears and never let me hear a sound.

I want love to, forget that you offended me
Or how you had defended me when everybody tore me down.

Yeah I want love to change my friends to enemies,
Change my friends to enemies and show me how it's all my fault.

Yeah I wont let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me
I won't let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me
I won't let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me anymore.

I think it's about not wanting love to stagnate and be boring, but be destructive and all consuming and above all, impossible to ignore.

It is sad but there are those who are addicted to abusive relationships. I think that is what the verses of this song are conveying,

"I WANT love to roll me over slowly, stick a knife inside of me, and twist it all around".

This abuser manages to alienate the one abused from friends and family, typical in abusive relationships,

"I want love to turn my friends to enemies...I want love to murder my own mother..."

The murder of one's mother I take metaphorically - the tragic affect the abusive relationship has on one's own Mother.

This dysfunctional relationship includes wanting to forgive the abuser,

"I want love to forget that you've offended me..."

It may be that the abuser has a good quality that abused thinks makes up for all the abuse (of course it doesn't),

"Or how you have defended me when everybody tore me down."

What is ironic about this statement is that the abuser tears down the self esteem of the abused yet defends the abused to others when they tear the abused down.

The epiphany comes in the refrain,

"Yeah I wont let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me I won't let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me I won't let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me ANYMORE."

The abusive "love" is now seen for what it is; unhealthy, dysfunctional, and damaging. The abused vows to leave the abusive relationship. The abused will no longer allow this form of dysfunctional "love" to "disrupt, corrupt or interrupt" them anymore.

This song is a powerful statement on the anatomy of an abusive relationship and the abused emerging with a new perspective on what love is really meant to be.

Firstly, please correct the song title - it's "Love Interruption", not "Love Interrupted" and is the lead single from Jack's first solo album Blunderbuss which I'm very excited for. I've been seriously looking forward to this for a year (The White Stripes split in February last year, didn't they?).

Anyway. I love this song especially because it's so true. Love's like he describes in the verses. I've experienced it once, and the consequences were so weird that they made me an absolutely different person. I hope to never love again, and I'm quite sure I won't, because as he says in the chorus, love will "disrupt, corrupt and interrupt me".

That's just my take on it of course. This is a great (mind you, excellent) song, and great songs have multiple meanings, depending on who interprets the lyrics. It might mean one thing to the lyricist, but completely another to the listener(s).

My Opinion

It is 'Love Interrupted', not interruption.

I couldn't have said it better myself Chronic! Also, Vortex it is "Love Interruption".

Yes it is, sorry. I was confused.

To me, the chorus implies he doesn't want love to cloud his thoughts. The verses offers a bunch of possible worst case scenarios with very negative consequences if love is clouding the singer's thoughts. Because the singer constantly "wants" these scenarios to happen, it seems like he wants one to happen to show how clouded his thoughts are to himself. Therefore, love won't "disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt" him anymore because something so tragic resulting from love happened and shows himself his error in thought and emotion.

My Interpretation

i think the whole song is just him being ironic. all these things are the opposite of what he actually wants from love. he's basically saying love comes with a lot of bad things, but he won't let it bother him.

Another amazing song by an amazing human being. Jack White is a living legend. As for the meaning, I think it is pretty self explanatory if you know how to read.

My Opinion

I like to think I know how to read, but the meaning eludes me. The verses seem to say the complete opposite of the chorus. What is the juxtaposition supposed to mean?

I think the song is about how love can change you in so many negative ways and make you do things that you never thought you were capable of doing. The chorus simply explains that he won't let love have such a hold on him any more.

My Opinion

To me, it seems that this is a song about the strongly conflicting feelings and hypocrisy many people feel when it comes to love.

When we think about the ideal of love, we tend to think of it as something that should take us by storm and knock us off our feet and be all-consuming, all of the things that are exaggerated in the verses of the song. But when it comes down to it, the second things start to take a turn in a relationship or we feel our independence being threatened, we tend to resent and reject all of the disruptions, corruptions, and interruptions that kind of love inevitably brings.

I think it's about the inherent incompatibility of these two lines of thinking - the very title of the song seems akin to sacrilege, thinking of love as an interruption is so crude and misses the entire meaning of love, but then again, love is always going to be an interruption to one's life and one's self. The structure of the song, that it simultaneously is forwarding both horns of this dilemma, seems to indicate that it is perfectly plausible to want both of these incompatible things, but also underlines how ludicrous that sounds when we say it out loud.
