This is about the friendzone. It's hard for guys and girls to be best friends, because romantic conflicts will get in the way on one side or the other.
For me this song is about how people can't see a boy and a girl as close friends. It's like, if you are a boy/girl and have a close/best friend of the opposite gender, they think you two are going out or at least that one of you likes the other romantically.
In the music, a girl and a boy were separated because of what other people thought of their friendship.
Saw them live recently and before Brittany performed this song live, she mentioned how this song was about having ties with a childhood friend cut after being told she was too old to be their friend
This song immediately made me think of the situation I was in with a friend. It can be difficult for a guy and girl to be friends becasue attraction does happen, but not always does the other feel the same. It is one of the worst feelings in the world , not understanding why someone who you thought was your friend could just ignore you and never speak to you again and I wish things could have worked out because he and I are no longer friends. But with time it does heal, but leaves a scar....
