You're never gonna love me, so what's the use?
What's the point in playing a game you're gonna lose?
What's the point in saying you love me like a friend?
What's the point in saying it's never gonna end?

You're too proud to say that you made a mistake
You're a coward till the end
I don't wanna admit that we're not gonna fit
No, I'm not the type that you like
Why don't we just pretend?

Lies
Don't wanna know, don't wanna know, oh
I can't let you go, can't let you go, oh
I just want it to be perfect
To believe it's all been worth the fight
Lies
Don't wanna know, don't wanna know, oh

You only ever touch me in the dark
Only if we're drinking can you see my spark
And only in the evening could you give yourself to me
'Cause the night is your woman, and she'll set you free

You're too proud to say that you made a mistake
You're a coward till the end
I don't wanna admit that we're not gonna fit
No, I'm not the type that you like
Why don't we just pretend?

Lies
Don't wanna know, don't wanna know, oh
I can't let you go, can't let you go, oh
I just want it to be perfect
To believe it's all been worth the fight
Lies
Don't wanna know, don't wanna know, oh

(Ooh)
(Lie-ee-i-ee-ies)

Lies
Don't wanna know, don't wanna know, oh
I can't let you go, can't let you go, oh
I just want it to be perfect
To believe it's all been worth the fight
Lies
Don't wanna know, don't wanna know, oh

This is quite frankly stunning, especially the acoustic version.

I think this song is about a guy who pursued a girl and it went further than he wanted it to. He likes her but doesn't want to commit to her fully so just tries and maintains a casual relationship (4th paragraph) as he doesn't have the guts to tell her he doesn't think she's the one. (5th).

    My Interpretation

First paragraph, she is depressed, because she has come to the realization that a relationship she work hard for was practically fake, because the man did not want to commit. He was just playing games with her, and just wants to end it. But she worked so hard for it, she wants to at least "believe it's all been worth the fight". So even if it is going to be a relationship that is dysfunctional, she just wants so badly to make it work. She would rather pretend then just give up.

    The man, on the other hand, did not want the srious relationship, so is just trying to 'back out' as happens in cases in actuality, and Marina doesnt want to accept that, as she says: 'I don't wanna admit, that we're not gonna fit'. He is too cowardly and proud to say that it was a fake relationship, so he makes excuses 'not the type that you like' etc;

Marina wanted everything to work out perfectly so she just put so much effort, and refuses admiting that the relationship is basically dea, and even though they both know it's lies, she needs to make it worth her while and just wont let go. So she lies and pretends that it will all be okay, even if it wont.

This song is very striking, because i think many people, like myself, can relate to it. Just so desprately wanting to hang on to what you want, instead of what the relationship actually is.

    Memory

I can easily relate to this song. It reminds me so much of a situation I was in last year. My old boyfriend and I were together for nearly three years, but towards the end I think we both knew it was over and yet were trying to salvage something that just wasn't there anymore. I then found out after our break-up that he had kissed another girl but for the longest time he was a coward and refused to own up to it. Before I knew this, we were still hooking up after our break-up because I still had the lingering hope that we could rekindle our relationship and be perfect again. It took me awhile for me to accept that he was a liar and that our love was gone. In essence, this song is lovely in the most tragic way.

    My Opinion

I agree with mpotts989. Its definitely about a relationship between two people that have not defined their relationship clearly and what they both want from it.

It is about Person A having feeling for the Person B, but Person B claims that they wont return these feelings. Yet Person B has shown that they do have feelings for the other but is too afraid to admit them to any other. Now stop whining about being fucking "friend Zoned" you whining misogynistic bastards and enjoy the song. Good day to you.

I think it's about 2 people that are just bang buddies and she develops feelings for them, but he doesn't genuinely return them

this song is one i can relate to very easily. i may only be in highschool, but isnt that the point. marina wants everyone to relate. I loved a guy for months and allowed myself to fall for him completely, only to find out he didnt feel the same way, it felt as if our whole relationship was a lie. when i hear this song i think of him 100% because this does describe us. he was a coward, and i didnt want to let go. i think she is having a similar situation that is happening when she wrote this. I know i didnt want to know about my ex's reasons why, and get hurt even more, i knew it would crush me for fighting for him for so long. so i thnk thats where she is going with that. he was also to scared to tell me he didnt feel it anymore, and the real reasons why, he was to COWARDLY to actually talk to me. and be honest with me. marina and i have a lot in common

    My Interpretation

I always connected the song with falling for someone you're close with but you know you would never cross the line of friendship, it would never be someting more, but you just want it so bad you still try too hard. Even though sometimes it seems like they may have feelings for you because of mixed sygnals, it all just feels like the lies you tell yourself because you can't give up on hope that one day they might eventually realise you're the one of them, you can't accept the truth or let go so you just spent your time in the world of illusion and sometimes it painfully breaks to you that it's all no use.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
