The Tale of You & Me Lyrics
Ever wonder why white clouds take flight
in the middle of the night,
just chasin' thunder's tail?
Ever wonder 'bout you and me
at the bottom of the sea,
while both our souls set sail?
Ever think about me at night,
how I'm never too kind?
Follow me, 'cause you know I'll fail
Make you wonder about heading home
where your lovers can't roam,
stab your back, throw you down the well
You ever think about both our mouths
'round the barrel of a gun?
Make it fast, won't feel a thing
Ever think about hangin' out
from the limbs of the tree,
swing above our buried rings?
You ever think about givin' up?
Take the pills in that cup,
sleep forever if you knew you could?
Make me think about cuttin' close
to the veins that hold love,
let them bleed out on the wood
Always said we'd die together
Now you die alone
And you wonder why I burned you down
Always said we'd die together
Now you die alone
You always talk about this and that,
sing a rattle-a-tat,
takin' walks out by the moon
Can you think about getting old,
though I've never been sold
on eternity with you?
Mama, keep your thoughts of loving things,
burn your house and your dreams,
though I love that devil's sin
Darling, next time I grab your hand
when we walk by the sea,
know I just might throw you in
And you wonder why I burned you down
Sleep good and hold tight,
just know that I'll make it right
in the middle of the night,
just chasin' thunder's tail?
at the bottom of the sea,
while both our souls set sail?
how I'm never too kind?
Follow me, 'cause you know I'll fail
where your lovers can't roam,
stab your back, throw you down the well
'round the barrel of a gun?
Make it fast, won't feel a thing
from the limbs of the tree,
swing above our buried rings?
Take the pills in that cup,
sleep forever if you knew you could?
to the veins that hold love,
let them bleed out on the wood
Now you die alone
Now you die alone
sing a rattle-a-tat,
takin' walks out by the moon
though I've never been sold
on eternity with you?
burn your house and your dreams,
though I love that devil's sin
when we walk by the sea,
know I just might throw you in
just know that I'll make it right

I think this song is about a couple, where someone in the couple has recently died, or committed suicide, and the deceased person wants the other person to join him/her, and the other person I think is giving in. "Ever wonder 'bout you and me at the bottom of the sea, while both our souls set sail?"
"Darling, next time I grab your hand when we walk by the sea, know I just might throw you in"
In my opinion I think the song is about suicide;
Ever wonder why white clouds take flight in the middle of the night, just chasin' thunder's tail? ~(The clouds are being compared to humans who deliberately put themselves in dangerous situations such as suicide)~
Ever wonder 'bout you and me at the bottom of the sea, while both our souls set sail? ~(drowning)~
Ever think about me at night, how I'm never too kind? Follow me, 'cause you know I'll fail ~(This part makes me think of possible reasons for suicide)~
Make you wonder about heading home where your lovers can't roam, stab your back, throw you down the well ~(This part is about giving up and just wanting to get away from everyone, even the ones you love who supposedly love you too but hurt you anyways)~
You ever think about both our mouths 'round the barrel of a gun? Make it fast, won't feel a thing ~(shooting yourself)~
Ever think about hangin' out from the limbs of the tree, swing above our buried rings? ~(hanging yourself)~
You ever think about givin' up? Take the pills in that cup, sleep forever if you knew you could? ~(overdosing on drugs)~
Make me think about cuttin' close to the veins that hold love, let them bleed out on the wood ~(cutting yourself)~
..............and so on
Okay so, yes it does refer to suicide multiple multiple times in a very graphic way.
However, I believe there's a bigger meaning to it. With the background knowledge of Wild Child's origin (Biggins and Wilson both began writing songs with the same background of breaking up with their significate others around the same time.)
With that said, when they sing "Always said we'd die together, now you die alone". I believe the message of this song is both Biggins and Wilson showing their hatred of their ex's. Almost turning the cute saying of "growing old together" into suicide and death through hatred and remorse. Yes, it is a bit of a stretch but it wouldn't make sense for them to write something fully on suicide (unless, of course, there's a story behind it)
To add to this, the following verses are "You're always talking about this and that singing rattle a tat taking walks down by the moon" and "Can you think about getting old no I've ever been sold on eternity with you" Which also adds to the whole "I hate you I regret dating you" kind-of tone. Or, it can be taken as their ex always said they would be together forever and die together and grow old together, but something must've happened to generate their hatred especially towards their claims on being together forever. (Obviously they aren't, because they broke up as stated in their wiki-page)
You can keep reading through the lyrics and make more connections based on what I've said, however I'm not to sure about the outro so let me know what you think!
Also excuse my grammar throughout this. I'm lazy.
