Deep In The Woods Lyrics
I'll bring down this house
I'll creep in and out
The thieves of the wind leaving no trace about
But all that I touch will be changed beyond doubt
Mine, you are mine, you are mine to protect;
I will watch over you who will suspect
Deep in the wood where no one can detect
In the wood something glowing
A burning light has started growing
It feels like a change is upon us at last
Consuming us fast, change is upon us
The smoke in the night
The ash on the light
I think that it might be the last thing in sight
I know now I am right to let you be consumed by the light
The curse on this house has been cast throughout
Only I know what lingers without
All that has led me be proof beyond doubt
Bury my love right deep in the ground
I went from watchful eyes all around
Save for the treasure that can not be found
In the wood something glowing
A burning light has started growing
It feels like a change is upon us at last
Consuming us fast, change is upon us
In the wood something glowing
A burning light has started growing
It feels like a change is upon us at last
Consuming us fast, change is upon us
The smoke in the night
The ash on the light
I think that it might be the last thing in sight
I know now I am right to let you be consumed by the light
The smoke in the night
The ash on the light
I think that it might be the last thing in sight
I know now I am right to
Let you be consumed
I know now I am right to let you be consumed by the light
I'll creep in and out
The thieves of the wind leaving no trace about
But all that I touch will be changed beyond doubt
Mine, you are mine, you are mine to protect;

I love this song so much.
This song reminds me a lot of the show "Twin Peaks" I think it's basically about that feeling you get when you're alone and feel like someone is watching over your shoulder combined with the eerie/magical feeling you get when walking through the forest.
I think this song is about self-transformation.
In the first verse, it's as if the speaker is vowing to protect herself as she changes. And that she will retreat somewhat as she goes through this transformation.
"Mine, you are mine, you are mine to protect. I will watch over you who will suspect Deep in the wood where no one can detect"
In the second verse, she explains how the "curse" has been cast throughout herself. She again decides to protect her self-love and self-respect as she goes through her transformation. Hence...
"Bury my love right deep in the ground Hide there from watchful eyes all around, Safe with the treasure that cannot be found"
Essentially, she recognizes her own self-transformation and change and that it is upon her. The "wood" represents this place of transformation
"In the wood something glowing a burning light has started growing It feels like a change is upon us at last Consuming us fast Change is upon us"
Lastly, she tells herself that she's right to be consumed by this change or transformation. In a way, she deserves it and it is the only thing left for her do. She's becoming her own light.
"I know I am right to let you be consumed I know I am right to let you be consumed by the light"
Great Song by Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley.
I believe I read somewhere it was based on the novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. Even if this is not true, I just finished the book and it fits pretty perfectly.
CAUTION, SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.
It´s based on the book by Shirley Jackson, We Have Always Lived In The Castle. It is sung from the point of view of Catherine "Merricat" Blackwood (18), who tries to keep safe her sister, Constance (28), from "who will suspect", cause all town thinks she poisoned their parents.
That´s the reason they live alone in their home "Deep In The Woods" (with their old uncle, Julian).
"We're thieves of the wind leaving no trace about" may refer to Marricat and her faithful cat, Jonas.
"Safe with the treasure that cannot be found". Marricat loves to bury "magic" stuff in the garden.
"It feels like a change is upon us at last, consuming us fast". In the book, Marricat says this, cause something happens in the house (I'm not going to tell you what) that makes her feel uncomfortable, so, she desperately tries to fix things.
And she fix them: "The smoke in the night, the ash on the light I think that it might be the last thing in sight. I know I am right to let you be consumed by the light"
READ THE BOOK GUYS, YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT!
(Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Mexico).
