Escape Lyrics

My hands are tied, they're going numb
I don't know where they've brought me
My throat's torn raw from all my screams
But no one can hear me
in the dark it seems I lose my dignity
Between the pain and tears
There's only fear

Escape (we don't have to save ourselves)
We will not be contained
(Let's fly away with all the angels)
We're breaking out tonight

Searching for a crack of light
But it seems to be changing
Is the sun leaving the sky?
Or is it me that's fading?
In the dark unseen
I know you search for me
I feel you drawing near
You fight my fear

Escape (we don't have to save ourselves)
We will not be contained
(Let's fly away with all the angels)
We're breaking out tonight
Fear is not our master anymore
Run with me, escape
We're breaking out tonight

This is our timeWe can't let our fear define us
This is our timeFrom this nightmare we are reborn
This is out time
This is our time to escape

You're not hopeless
=You're not worthless
You are loved
Don't give up
This is your time

I don't know what 'obsessed" has to do with this song, but I am saddened that there is (was) just one comment. It seems the more honest the song, the fewer it receives. This song is about gripping fear, perhaps much like the fear someone who is afraid of heights feels as s/he walks across a bridge; an recovering alcohol feels when he stares down a bottle of booze; or the fear a woman who has experienced rape feels the first time she is alone again at night in her home. I'm not sure if the "breaking out tonight" means literally leaving the fear behind tonight, or if it means putting it to rest forever. I love the song's endingm "You're not hopeless. You're not worthless. You are loved." Such powerful words. Such an inspirational track. I had to look up this band as I had never before heard of it until someone introduced it to me. Good stuff!

Dang, I cannot type. That's what exhaustion and chemical fumes do to a person:) Still a wicked good song!

I think you may have hit the nail on the head! I liked your examples of differing fears.

Obsessed!

I think this song is about something in the past. Something hurt the speaker* and now they are in a situation where the pain and fear of the past is trapping them. Their "hands are tied" by the past emotions. They feel helpless. They are crying out for help. They are close to giving up. But they know there is always hope. Amazing song and message.

*In some songs, the speaker is different from the writer. I don't know if Dawn was singing this from her own point of view or the point of view of someone she knew or a hypothetical person.
