Can't Go Home Lyrics
That's the last I'll compromise
Before your perfect eyes
It's the dream that wakes you up
There's nothing like sleeping alone so much
You keep holding me back when I'm on my way
I could only forget if you'd let me stay
Then I'd leave when I'd want to give you some peace
But you couldn't believe there'd be times like these
When I tell you the truth that I miss your touch
Oh, when you couldn't take that I left so much
If I told you to stay you would never want
To be standing alone like a setting sun
That's the last I'll compromise
Before your perfect eyes
It's a dream that wakes you up
There's nothing like sleeping alone so much
So you can go when you want without telling me
Take your love where you want and don't think of me
Cause I'm trying to live like I never have
But you couldn't believe there'd be times like that
When I tell you the truth that I miss your touch
Oh when you couldn't take that I left so much
There's no way I can stay in the home you left
There are things in my life that I can't accept
That's the last I'll compromise
Before your perfect eyes
It's the dream that wakes you up
There's nothing like sleeping alone so much
There's nothing more empty than my own bed
I don't know where to go when I can't go home
Before your perfect eyes
It's the dream that wakes you up
I could only forget if you'd let me stay
Then I'd leave when I'd want to give you some peace
But you couldn't believe there'd be times like these
When I tell you the truth that I miss your touch
Oh, when you couldn't take that I left so much
If I told you to stay you would never want
To be standing alone like a setting sun
Before your perfect eyes
It's a dream that wakes you up
Take your love where you want and don't think of me
Cause I'm trying to live like I never have
But you couldn't believe there'd be times like that
When I tell you the truth that I miss your touch
Oh when you couldn't take that I left so much
There's no way I can stay in the home you left
There are things in my life that I can't accept
Before your perfect eyes
It's the dream that wakes you up
There's nothing more empty than my own bed
I don't know where to go when I can't go home

I think that this song is about reaching the point in assessing your past when you are finally able to smile, rather than be bitter. I think that the term home is used to describe the familiarity of your past that you have returned to time and time again because it is all that you know.
It's about accepting your current reality and deciding how to move forward, away from your "home", and towards the liberation of growth... even if it means that you need to accept the emotional and physical loneliness - because in the end it will lead you to wake up to a new world around you.
