The kids were wrong Lyrics

Go to sleep, nothing's changing
I'll be right here by your side
Great teens, colors fading
In the stillness of the night

You're thick skinned but it seems
You're hiding in day dreams
Can't find our way to the light
And when this routine ends, the nights and weekends
Will see day light through the blinds

Drifting in a cold state
The glowing practical day
Bodies slacked pressed beneath the hour in your eyes
Fingernails and cold skin
Your parents bed you lay in, arms outstretched
The emptiness, the space you left behind

Go to sleep, nothing's changing
I'll be right here by your side
Tear the seems, we're not aging
Beneath these trembling starlit skies

You're thick skinned but you know
It's beyond our control
Shadows gleaming through our eyes

You're living the past, dear
Be free from those dull years
We'll see daylight through the blinds

Drifting in a cold state
The glowing practical day
Bodies slacked pressed beneath the hour in your eyes
Fingernails and cold skin
Your parents bed you lay in, arms outstretched
The emptiness, the space you left behind

I really don't know what to make of this song since several meanings could fit into the lyrics. My original interpretation of this song was that it was about a girl nurturing a new relationship that was going through the 'honeymoon phase'. The girl sings about new discoveries she's making about her lover like 'being thick-skinned' and 'hiding in day dreams'. She also mentions 'it seems' which further leads me to believe she just met her lover. Lyrics like 'your parents bed we lay in' and 'bodies slacked pressed beneath...' reinforce my belief that she's singing towards someone that's more than just a friend. Overall, I think this song is describing the honeymoon phase most new relationships go through.
