Empty Vessels Make The Loudest Sound Lyrics
if I trust in the wind
she will pave me a different road
I will try and start over
but I think I must choose someone else
I am pulled from the pages
where the letters lack the pigment of trust
must be on my way
I've gotta get home
won't be back someday
so let it unfold...
I've abandoned the outcome
in search of the rest I deserve
you can do what you will
with my body, but I won't ring the bell
I've admitted the chapters
that bow and admit defeat
must be on my way
I've gotta get home
won't be back someday
so let it unfold...
higher than mountains of cavernous people
searching for a lighthouse in the fog
of the flowers that grew
from the cracks in the ground you paved
didn't you think he would warn me
through the thorns of my waking dreams
when the riddles connected
the dots of this constellation
must be on my way
I've gotta get home
won't be back someday
so let it unfold...
higher than mountains of cavernous people
searching for a lighthouse in the fog
I found a reason to leave you with this love
all I can do is forgive your broken heart
trapped in this town made of amber for too long
all I can do is forgive your broken heart
higher than mountains of cavernous people
searching for a lighthouse in the fog
she will pave me a different road
but I think I must choose someone else
where the letters lack the pigment of trust
I've gotta get home
won't be back someday
so let it unfold...
in search of the rest I deserve
with my body, but I won't ring the bell
that bow and admit defeat
I've gotta get home
won't be back someday
so let it unfold...
searching for a lighthouse in the fog
from the cracks in the ground you paved
through the thorns of my waking dreams
the dots of this constellation
I've gotta get home
won't be back someday
so let it unfold...
searching for a lighthouse in the fog
all I can do is forgive your broken heart
all I can do is forgive your broken heart
searching for a lighthouse in the fog

This is definitely my favorite song off this record.
I have to think that this song refers to someone who has taken their own life. "I’ve abandoned the outcome in search of the rest I deserve".
"You can do what you will with my body but I won’t ring the bell". I believe this is in reference to the days when they would tie a string to bodies before they were buried and attached it to a bell above ground so that if the person wasn't really dead they could ring the bell to alert someone.
I would love to hear other opinions.
I know this was written before the breakup, but it almost sounds like Cedric's attempt to say goodbye to the band. Lines like "If I trust in the wind..." show that he is wondering if he has to go in a different direction. Similarly, "the rest I deserve" could mean that after 11 or so years of TMV work he wanted to take a rest, which was seen by the band's hiatus. Then, another line like, " Of the flowers that grew" shows the good things that have sprouted up, even if he was sort of playing second fiddle to Omar for most of the time the band was around (it is well known that Omar was controlling and wanted to write all the music and let Cedric write lyrics).
Just a thought.
I seems to me like it's someone who's giving up their dreams and desires because of the weight on them to do something else.
This is SUCH an amazing song. It's beyond the words. Yesm easily my favorite song. Because of the deep meaning it provides.
Yes, song is amazing and your 'favorite', but what "deep meaning" are you talking about? Kind of what this website is about..(songMEANINGS.com)
