My Kind Of Love

When I first listened to this song, I got the same meaning everyone else did. But after listening to it multiple times, I've gotten a totally different, deeper meaning. Plus Emeli Sande lyrics are always so deep, there had to be more than "I'll always be by your side".

I feel like it could be about her being cold. shes telling you about how cold she is in a relationship. How she keeps her heart guarded. And how its hard to express the way she feels because of all the trials and tribulations in the past shes been through.

Verse 1: Tough Love- shes basically saying "I wont sugar coat anything. I'm going to tell it like it is. No matter how much It hurts you, It's out of love." Possibly because shes previously been in the relationship where she was promised the stars, and wishes, and was hurt and lied to. and feels that she wont let her partner be subjected to the same kind of hurt shes been through in the past.

Verse 2: Over time shes become a hermit So to speak. Shes become reclusive. She keeps to herself. She wont be singing love songs because that's not the type of love she knows. Shes been there, done that. Shes a bit bitter. She has a hard time expressing the way she feels. and keeps her heart at bay, but no matter what She says, She still loves him. That's The only way she know how to express her love.

In the chorus, shes basically saying, "when you've been through everything that I've been through, when you feel the way I've felt, then you'll understand why I am the way I am, and why I love the way I love. You will feel MY kind of love. The way I express MY love."

Long story short:

"Take a walk in my shoes, then you'll know love the way I know love. The only way I know HOW TO love."

It's just saying that she's not outwardly romantic, or she's not going to trip over herself to let everyone know that she's in love. But, it's also saying that her kind of love is just as deep, if not deeper, than the norm. It's also saying that her love is the type of love you're going to want/need when your life gets flipped upside down for whatever reason.

She's saying that whenever you need her, she'll always be there. When your day is bad, when your life is going down the drain, she'll be there no matter what. When people put you down and make you feel like your not worth it, she'll be there. So dont ever question if her heart beats only for him. Because if she's willing to be there through all that, then its no question that it does.

She's just an introverted person like me and I feel the same. It's about friendship. Many people think that love beetween friends is all about fun, parties, being together, laughing together, flattering each other etc. So they forget another side of love or even what love actually is. I think it's kind of an excuse to person who is her friend and who thinks that she doesn't live hom (her) becouse she never flatter and doesn't go to parties etc. May be my interpretation is very simple but I think and feel the same way.

This song is saying that whenever you need her she's always going to be there no matter what. When the lyrics say " When you've given up and no matter what you do is never good enough and when you never thought that it could ever get this tough that's when you feel my kind of love" i think these lyrics are saying that when you've given up on things i'll be there and you'll feel my love. Also the friends have walked out too because the lyrics say " When the friends you thought you had never stuck around" basically she's saying again she'll be there through it all.

She explains how she may not be perfect. (e.g. quiet at parties, getting angry sometimes) But even though she has those imperfections, she will be there for him whenever things are not going well in his life. Because she is by his side so much, he can't really question that her heart doesn't beat for him.

I'm trying to get the meaning of 'I know I keep my heart protected, far away from my sleeve' Would sombody tell me what's the meaning of 'far away from my sleeve' here!

I see it as in a religious kind of way. I'm not religious, but it can mean that in the first verse, the first part it's like God telling her " I can't buy your love... etc", then she responds : "I know I'm far from perfect, etc... " Like God loves her, she loves God, but sometimes she thinks she can't anymore, and even though she believes in God, bad stuff keep happening. Then, the second verse it's the same, the first part being God, " You won't me at the parties..." then again her saying " I know sometimes I get angry... ", and the chorus being completly in God's point of view, you feel frustrated , but that is when God comes in to rescue ( in a christian point of view ).
