Revival Mode Lyrics

Thanks, Lord, but I don't need any more
poor advice, poor advice.

Got in the cannon with a one way ticket.
Four riders in a town with one horse.
I've wagered a sure thing
against what was behind the first door.

Stack the chips, let it ride.
Out of sight out of mind.
It's fool proof and it won't do
to make safe bets while I'm toeing the line

Thanks, Lord, but I don't need any more
poor advice, poor advice.(X2)

I had a lock on a dirty little secret.
A raging bull who thinks I'll fold out.
I've been waiting at ringside
my whole life but I'm still swinging on.
I've got death piling high.
I've got addictions, ex-wives.
But I've stayed true,
so I thank you for bearing witness
while I waste my fucking life.

I need to pay the judge
to pay the judge
to pay the judge, now.
I need to tip the scales
some sort of bribery,
I'm not waiting this out.
I need to pay the judge
to pay the judge
to pay the judge, now.
I need to increase the pot
some sort of certainty,
I'm sick of waiting this out.

I should have learned a more noble craft.
Out of the library into the lab.
And will machine gunners please step forth?
"Will machine gunners please step forth?"***
There's only room on this rescue boat
for butchers and bakers and men with hope.
And will machine gunners please step forth?
"Will machine gunners please step forth?"***

Thanks, Lord, but I don't need any more
poor advice, poor advice. (X2)

Sounds like a song questioning being his path in life in a band. I know that seems to be a theme of this album from what has come out so far, with "Underwater Bimbos.." comparing his timeline to that of friends with "normal" lives.

I'm pretty sure the line goes: "There's only room on this rescue boat for butchers and bankers, and men without hope"

I don't know why a baker would be on the boat, but bankers are usually seen as corrupt and i think is more fitting.

The lyric book actually says "bakers." I thought it was bankers at first too. Now I almost look at it as both: Maybe a baker could be looked at as someone who 'cooks the books.'

Great song. One of my faves off of Ex-Lives.

Ok so im pretty sure its about religion holding you back from living your life the way you want because of the religions rules. And so hes saying in the beginning hes done everything right. wagering a sure trip to heaven by doing good. And hes says it wont do. To play it safe while hes wanting to live his life on his terms. And the 2nd verse is him saying that hes stayed true to being faithful while problems have befallen him and so he thanks god for watching over him while hes done nothing to remember but play it safe. Or in his words while I wasted my fucking life. Thanks god for wasting my time. Then the pay the judge part is bribing god or whoever decides who goes to heaven and hell so he can live the life he wants and not care and still get into heaven. Hes tired of waiting out his one chance at life on the sidelines.

I guess no one is familiar with the whole Rubadubdub, three men in a tub? One of the lines in the rhyme is "the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker" Seems like he is making a pretty clear play on the old rhyme. Hope that helps make sense out of why it is baker and not banker.
