Sugar Lyrics
Under the eyelids (x2)
That’s where you’re hiding (x2)
Like I’m a stranger
Signaling danger
But I’m a beggar (x2)
Take me back
Take me home
You were right all along
You are where I belong
Where I belong
If there’s a sonnet
That makes you feel wanted
Then sugar I’m on it, sugar I’m on it
Water to world
A shell to a pearl
Is how I’ll protect you
I’ll always protect you
Take me back
Take me home
You were right all along
You are where I belong
Where I belong
x2
I’ve given you all I am
Given you all I am
x2
You are where I belong (x2)
If I’m the great sea
You’re what I’m reflecting
Blue in the evening (x2)
You hit like the lightning
A beauty so frightening
The earth was divided (x2)
That’s where you’re hiding (x2)
Like I’m a stranger
Signaling danger
But I’m a beggar (x2)
Take me home
You were right all along
You are where I belong
Where I belong
That makes you feel wanted
Then sugar I’m on it, sugar I’m on it
Water to world
A shell to a pearl
Is how I’ll protect you
I’ll always protect you
Take me home
You were right all along
Where I belong
x2
Given you all I am
x2
You’re what I’m reflecting
Blue in the evening (x2)
You hit like the lightning
A beauty so frightening
The earth was divided (x2)

Beautiful song. But of course that can be said about almost every Paper Route song. Still confused as to why these guys have not gotten more popularity. Spread the word people!
I think this song is exactly what it says in the second verse: "If there’s a sonnet That makes you feel wanted Then sugar I’m on it, sugar I’m on it"
He's writing a love song to the girl he's totally in love with. It also has the feeling that she is running from him either because he hurt her in some way ("take me back") or just because she's just scared ("I'll protect you").
As the cliche says, "home is where the heart is", so he is begging the girl to "take me home" to "where I belong".
I also love the line "Blue in the evening". It's a play on words, because if he is "the great sea" and she is "what [he's] reflecting", then when the sun sets, there is no light to reflect, so the sea is simply just blue. But he is also "blue" (as in sad) because she's not there with him to "reflect". (Maybe I'm reading way to far into this, but knowing PR, the lyrics are usually very poetic, so I'm guessing there is some kind of deeper meaning here, whether this is it or not).
My two cents. Love the song. Can't wait for the rest of the album!
At first listen, I wasn't too thrilled with the following release, but I've gained a new outlook on the album that I'm really excited about now. Thanks for the reflection, I think it's well worth having read.
