Preservation (Prologue) Lyrics

We are the Village Green Preservation Society
God save Donald Duck, vaudeville and variety
We are the Desperate Dan Appreciation Society
God save strawberry jam and all the different varieties

Preserving the old ways from being abused
Protecting the new ways, for me and for you
What more can we do?

We are the Draught Beer Preservation Society
God save Mrs. Mopp and good old Mother Riley
We are the Custard Pie Appreciation Consortium
God save the George Cross, and all those who were awarded them

Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh

We are the Sherlock Holmes English-speaking Vernacular
God save Fu Manchu, Moriarty and Dracula
We are the Office Block Persecution Affinity
God save little shops, china cups, and virginity
We are the Skyscraper Condemnation Affiliates
God save Tudor houses, antique tables, and billiards

Preserving the old ways from being abused
Protecting the new ways, for me and for you
What more can we do?

We are the Village Green Preservation Society
God save Donald Duck, vaudeville and variety
We are the Desperate Dan Appreciation Society
God save strawberry jam and all the different varieties

We are the Village Green Preservation Society
God save Donald Duck, vaudeville and variety
We are the Desperate Dan Appreciation Society
God save Donald Duck, vaudeville and variety

God save the Village Green!

Cover art for Preservation (Prologue) lyrics by Kinks, The

I loved Preservation. I felt and still do that it illustrates the political climate of the UK (if not the world) and is equally as relevant today as it was back in 1973/74. I also strongly believe that both albums contain some of the strongest song writing that Ray Davies has ever written although some of it could be edited in places.

I think it is incredibly sad that Ray has junked this album and has chosen to bury it in the 1970's as a relic to be forgotten.

If your reading this Ray; Please stop putting your time and money into devising rubbishy duke box musicals for the tourists like 'Sunny Afternoon' and please bring Preservation back for the masses?

I can see it as a political commentary on contemporary Britain with David Cameron as 'Mr Flash' and Jeremy Corbyn as 'Mr Black'.
