I believe the song says that you're NOT a teenager and you cannot go back to being one no matter how hard you try/want to because life does move on with or without us. And it says that at some point music went from enhancing a life to inhibiting one. It became an escape more than a love or a hobby. It stopped others from knowing; oneself from taking chances and having that fire in the gut that comes with gambling; and it made a difficult life easier. But when did "easier" become best. That's what I think the song is about. I think it's an honest song and will hopefully be heard by honest ears, albeit reluctant, angry ears.
