Too Bright to See, Too Loud to Hear

Drummer Aaron Gillespie explained this song to Punkbands.com: "I wrote those lyrics on a plane on my phone. I think in our band we know what our purpose is here and we know why we're here but it's hard to not take advantage of that sometimes and, you know, I'm in a band and it's easy sometimes but it's just a cry to God. Like, is it too late for you to help us out and help us realize that what we have is special?"

the song is pretty much summed up in the last line. its about the band, and how i think people judge them about them being; "christians", so theyre saying; that if they stop all this god stuff, they'll be empty and that, people forget about when we were forgiven for our sins. but, we still dont care. and, yeah. dont kow if i made much sense, but that it :)

when it says "good God, can you still get us home?" I think it means that in the bible, it says in Philippians 3:20 "But our citizenship is in heaven..." which in the song i think that they are crying out to God, asking "God! In the midst of sin and corruption, do you think we could endure it all and make it to heaven?! thats what i think :P

basically my interpretation of the song is that during a point of all christian's spiritual walk they question whether to further pursue God or to slowly slip away to the world and fall amonst the shadows. it sounds like that maybe the voice of the song has "backslid" or has forgotten their faith. Many christians, including myself have let themselves fall away from their faith but later ultimately come back to God asking for his forgiveness. "how the freedom we had turned us up as dead men" sounds like many take the freedom God gives us. "were forgetting our forgiveness" is the point where God always forgives our sins if we have Jesus in our hearts. many people forget that and "backslide"- let one sin turn into ten, twenty, then a life full of sin instead of facing that first sin and asking for forgiveness.

omg the ending starting when aaron breaks in with "STILL GET US HOOOOOME" and spencer starts screaming. might be my favorite part in any underoath song ever... asdfk;jfasdkhlk

hey hoppps. Im not too sure on this. I havent done any research but i get the feelings this is a direct reference to people in the bible. My best guess is the israelites (Good God can you still get us home-the promised land) but the jews (and us) the freedom we have as to whether to follow God or not. But a direct comparison of us as the israelites. We are also lost and messed. And the jews still stuffing it up so many times that their bad use of freedom has left them dead. If you re-read the lyrics you can see the jewish connection. The vagabonds and wanderers and ears and eyes all fit that. But thats just my guess. If anyone actually has anything solid that would be kif to hear. I dont get the how they knew that this would happen?

How they knew that this would happen [how they (world/anyone) knew we would stumble/sin/lose our way]

they are talking about humanity as a whole. in this life as christians we are tempted my many wordly things everyday. the songs overall meaning is saying if we lose our way (i.e. if your song leaves our lips, if your work leaves our hands) that we will be empty not filled with the light of the holy spirit. and people who have not been saved and are blind to what Christ has done will surely critize everything we have done. the fact that we all have the ability to see and hear the things in life that we do enables us to be corrupted hence we will be forgettening our forgivness that Jesus Christ gave us when he died for our sins on the cross. We need to stay strong and true to our faith. that is what this song is about, staying true to Christ. And the short story of what will happens if we wander away. If his word leaves our lips.

I could have sworn it was 'Wanderers and Vagabonds" not 'wonders and vagabonds," which doesn't make a ton of sense :s

There are soo many more direct God references on this album compared to their other ones...slightly off putting for non religious people I think. ah well as long as the music is good..
