People [Dialogue] Lyrics
People
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
We're children, needing other children
And yet letting a grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside
Acting more like children than children
Lovers, are very special people
They're the luckiest people in the world
With one person
One very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
With one person, one very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half, now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
We're children, needing other children
And yet letting a grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside
Acting more like children than children
They're the luckiest people in the world
With one person
One very special person
Says you were half now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half, now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world

The song is gorgeous but the meaning has some question marks. What about Fanny Brice inspired this song and the specific idea that she did not need people? I think Fanny did need people and did go for laughs. Fanny was married as a teen ager so she was not a virgin as the movie seems to suggest. I am thinking the lyricist is suggesting that she was not vulnerable or something. She might have had an issue with trust and real intimacy? I think that we should not wear our hearts on our sleeves. some caution is preferable to being used and heartbroken. Children make friends quite easily. That is the beauty of childhood. Adults have various agendas so it gets more complicated. I think the terms is having some boundaries and that seems to be a good idea. The meaning of the son eludes me other than my own thoughts on relationships?
