There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics
Take me out tonight
Where there's music and there's people
Who are young and alive
Driving in your car
I never, never want to go home
Because I haven't got one anymore
Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people
And I want to see light
Driving in your car
Oh, please don't drop me home
Because it?s not my home, it?s their home
And I'm welcome no more
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine
Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere
I don't care, I don't care, I don't care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought, oh God, my chance has come at last
But then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask
Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere
I don't care, I don't care, I don't care
Driving in your car
I never, never want to go home
Because I haven't got one
I haven't got one
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us, so what
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine
Oh, there is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
Where there's music and there's people
Who are young and alive
I never, never want to go home
Because I haven't got one anymore
Because I want to see people
And I want to see light
Oh, please don't drop me home
Because it?s not my home, it?s their home
And I'm welcome no more
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine
Oh, take me anywhere
I don't care, I don't care, I don't care
I thought, oh God, my chance has come at last
But then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask
Oh, take me anywhere
I don't care, I don't care, I don't care
I never, never want to go home
Because I haven't got one
I haven't got one
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
Kills the both of us, so what
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out
There is a light, never goes out

I can't believe no one has commented on this amazing song!
Morrissy has a tendency to hide meanings in songs and some of his songs are hard to find the meaning behind so I am going to give my view on what it means to me:
To me this song is about being in love with someone you can't have and it gives you a scared feeling when your around them, you prepared to do anything for them even dying wouldnt be so bad if they where there, in fact it would be a honour.
The bit about "I don't ever want to go because I haven't got one" I think that is where the person singing this song has told their parents their LGBTQ and the parents have ben unaccepting of it.
And the chorous "there is a light and it never goes out" I think is saying that their is a hope that the person will love you back despite yu knowing that they never will.
there are other things it could mean but the themes are: .Unrequited love .Suicide .Depression .hope
I feel like the singer in this song has an inherent self-loathing to them- they’re passively suicidal, as seen by the fact that they’re perfectly fine with being hit by a truck, as long as their love is with them. They feel trapped both by their inability to confess and by the fact that their home life is so awful- like they “want to see people and want to see light” but are currently in a state of limbo where anything could happen, and the possibilities are still waiting for them.
