Down by the Riverside Lyrics
Oh, hallelujah to the lamb
Down by the river
The Lord is on the giving hand
Down by the riverside
Oh, we'll wait till Jesus comes
Down by the river
Oh, we'll wait till Jesus comes
Down by the riverside
Oh, we are pilgrims here below
Down by the river
Oh, soon to glory we will go
Down by the riverside
Oh, we'll wait till Jesus comes
Down by the river
Oh, we'll wait till Jesus comes
Down by the riverside
Down by the river
The Lord is on the giving hand
Down by the riverside
Down by the river
Oh, we'll wait till Jesus comes
Down by the riverside
Down by the river
Oh, soon to glory we will go
Down by the riverside
Down by the river
Oh, we'll wait till Jesus comes
Down by the riverside

Not to be confused with the other Down by the Riverside sung by Elvis and Peter Paul and Mary (among many others as far back as the Civil War). There are many versions of this song that originated from the mouth of working slaves. I believe this song (a watered down version) is merely about waiting for the reappearance of God, perhaps in baptism.
