I think this song may be about hightened sense during and in the face of death during war, which may feel like a machine, and prehaps the thoughts of a solider who may be counted as a disciple of death.

Alternatively, the 'diamond star' may be the narrator turning a bullet into something desirable or something attractive, easy to look at or be dazzled.

This is another cryptic song on this album with a really deep, groovy bass line.
