This is another really great melodic song by Collective Soul that I think is generally about unspoken feeling with a woman he hasnt started a relationship with that they both know and understand but havent acted on yet. He is wondering what he would have to lose by turning around and going back to her (presumably romantically).
The reason I think that is because he begins by saying their conversation floats "like clouds in our minds", or unspoken It also says they have denied a world to themselves (of them being together?). He continues to question if he turned around, "Would that be my loss" as in what would I actually lose if he did that. He ends by wondering whats the point of all the denied conversations and not turning around to go get her, if he is still missing her once they leave each other.... (isnt that worse than just turning around, putting yourself out there and finding out?)
This song is cool because it describes a situation many of us have been in where there is an unspoken like between two people, that just hasnt been verbalized or recognized between them yet, and spurns that action to just dive in... after all what will you really lose and whats the point if you experience all the missing of them when you leave without turning around to go back to them to find out anyways?.
This song makes me think and remember all of the fun and anguish as a relationship just starts in the very beginning, like when you think the other person likes you, but you arent 100% sure yet and you are still a little afraid to put yourself out there all the way to find out for sure. The song says go for it!!
