Keep On the Sunny Side Lyrics
Well, there's a dark and a troubled side of life
There's a bright and a sunny side too
But if you meet with the darkness and strife
The sunny side we also may view
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we keep on the sunny side of life
Oh, the storm and its fury broke today
Crushing hopes that we cherish so dear
Clouds and storms will in time pass away
The sun again will shine bright and clear
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life
Let us greet with a song of hope each day
Though the moments be cloudy or fair
Let us trust in our Savior always
To keep us, every one, in His care
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life
There's a bright and a sunny side too
But if you meet with the darkness and strife
The sunny side we also may view
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we keep on the sunny side of life
Crushing hopes that we cherish so dear
Clouds and storms will in time pass away
The sun again will shine bright and clear
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life
Though the moments be cloudy or fair
Let us trust in our Savior always
To keep us, every one, in His care
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life

From the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? Reminds me of a poem K. Gibran wrote long ago about not being able to see/enjoy the good times if you do not experience (and truly feel) pain. (It is a poem dealing specifically with pain from his book The Prophet.) This song is about trusting in God; allow Him to guide us; and with faith you will eventually see the sun.
This set of lyrics is flawed from the actual performance versions always done. With that said, This was written my Mother Carter (Also known as Mother MayBelle Carter though her given name was AnnaBelle. And according to the story told by her famous Granddaughter, "Mother" wrote this in the back of an old ford flatbed truck as she and her sisters went to go sing for a church revival during the depression. And it has had a slight change to be done by non-gospel acts with the verse change of: "Let us start with some hope for each day, though your thoughts maybe dark and despair. And may you help your brother always, And treat everyone with dear care!"
I know that it's just a small change but for non-christians it makes a very enjoyable song be positive without forcing one religion onto anyone. Scotty
