Weapon & the Wound

I heard Travis Meeks in an interview and he said that this part:

Running after you I don't know where you are And I can't seem to catch you I want you to know me

Was about a sibling that he was trying to locate. He denied that it was about a chick or any kind of love relationship. I don't know what brothers and sisters he has. I do know his home life growing up wasn't good and he went back and forth between his grandmother and his Dad. I don't know where his mother was. It would make sense then that he could have siblings he'd like to meet.

I hope he gets it all together. He is an amazing musician and songwriter and singer all rolled into one! What a sound and the depth to his lyrics blow my mind! I haven't been this excited about a new band since I was in 7th grade and Led Zep came to town! Yeah, I'm old!

This is my favorite tune of all time. I never, ever believed that I could like a song with a clarinet and this may be the haunting tune with such an instrument. It goes to show that musical talent knows no genre limit. This is probably one of the most depressing tunes of all time as well. Still a classic in my mind.

suprisingly enough... this was the song that made me fall in love with dotn. it gives a sort of unsettling feeling. i always thought of it as a way of saying that he was chasing something better and trying to change things... you know kind of personal and such. however, i had never heard the "missing sibling" thing. that sounds like a good reason to write this song... and the title is spelled wrong. and uh... yeah clarinets rock so hard!

I'm pretty sure Travis was thinking of his daughter when he wrote this song. Travis was extremely young when he had a little girl. Not sure what his relationship has been with his daughter due to her mother and him not getting along.

I have known Travis for years, I asked him what this song was about, he said it was about his daughter, he has tried to be a part of her life, he says "I want you to know me" and anything is everything to me" some kids are like weapons that one parent uses to hurt the other parent.

Perhaps the “weapon” is a narcissistic ex!! and the “wound” is his child. And that he desperately wants her to know him, and even with his best efforts he still can’t find or reach her?

perhaps as well, it’s about that unicorn he is forever searching for. and even with his best efforts, with her elusiveness that still keeps her out of his reach. anyway, this song really hits home too me ✌️
